Are there things that you can do to arrest a deteriorating relationship? Couples with marriage on the rocks should contemplate and do some self-examination. Here are four suggestions.

  3. Identify the Things that Went WrongFirst, identify the problem and particularly, the not-so-obvious things. It's time to look around to see where, why and how things started to go wrong. Go for a walk and ask yourself some questions: Is there something missing? Is there something I should have accomplished but missed doing it? When did the fire of love start fading?Find answers to these questions and let those answers guide you on how to talk with your partner. Get your partner to a serious talk with you. Talk about those things you have discovered and share your insights in this conversation.

  4. Decide What It Is that Needs FixingAfter the talk, perhaps, it's good for both of you to have space and time to think alone. Schedule another talk with your spouse with the purpose of coming up with a decision - whether to let go or move on together and forget the past. Alone, you must weigh the consequences. What about the children? Will I be a happier person if we separate? Is this marriage worth saving?

  5. Now, if you decide to save your relationship, identify the things that need fixing. Are schedules becoming a problem? Does your partner spend more time outside? Is there a third-party involved in the problem? Is it about unequal distribution of home tasks? Is it about sex? Whatever these problems are, make sure that you have suggestions on how to eradicate them.However, if you think that the relationship is not worth continuing, all the more that you should think hard. One of the hardest things an individual can do in life is to break a family.

But the challenge may not be that hard to beat if you will really work it out hand in hand. There's nothing that can stop you from saving your relationship if love is truly there.
