  13. Communication With patients : -at their level of understanding - develop rapport, gain trust With parents : - establish good rapport - fix appointments - keep them well informed - OH education to promote home care

  14. Management - recognise child’s temperament - apply appropriate behaviour management techniques …… Tell-show-do Modelling Distraction etc - recognise when to STOP

  16. Threshold Clinical Requirements • Minimum 30 clinical points • Minimum 4 case completions

Competencies in Paediatric Dentistry • Clinical competency test on fissure sealant Complete 4 FS in child patients to be eligible (use FS log sheet) Evaluated on case selection & each stage of clinical procedure If fail, remedial of 2 FS before re-test • Oral competency test Complete threshold clinical & IVLE module requirements to be eligible Viva : 15 mins, conducted with aid of clinical slides, radiographs, casts etc on all aspects of paediatric dentistry IVLE module : series of case studies in Paediatric Dentistry mounted on NUS website To complete 3 cases assigned by staff

  18. Continual Assessment 40% of final marks for Paediatric Dentistry • 2 written assessments • Performance at Tutorials/ Seminars • Oral Competency Test • Clinical FS Competency Test • Clinical Schedule • Patient Management

  19. Final Assessment • Examined in final BDS Professional Examination at end of Year 4 • 2 hrs written paper comprising of 2 essay type questions (structured or long) • Makes up 60% of final marks for Paediatric Dentistry • 40% from CA
