Text Analysis What is the text mainly about?(1) As the story reveals to us, there are three major characters — the mother, her father and her daughter. The mother felt sorry for her father because she witnessed her suffer and die from smoking. Her bitter and painful experiences with her father’s smoking habit have taught herself a good lesson.
Text Analysis What is the text mainly about? (2) That’s why she feels deeply hurt to see her daughter smoking the same kind of cigarette that killed her grandfather. The mother never hopes that her daughter will follow in her grandfather’s footsteps, but hopes that her father’s fate will serve as a warning to her daughter.

The whole passage consists of three parts: the author’s worries about her daughter’s smoking; the author’s painful experiences with her father’s smoking.
