  1. Keys of Application How to Apply The Treasures of Scripture Royce P. Bell v2 2006-0226 MV Church, SB2001-0211 MV Church, SB

  2. 2 Timothy 2:14-15... “14 Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers. 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.”

  3. Romans 11:33-36 “33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! 34 For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has became his counselor? 35 Or who has first given to him that it might be paid back to him again? 36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.”

  4. The Object of Scripture • Teaching (KJV/ASV, doctrine) • In-doctrin(e)-ation... • Reproof • Exposing moral, ethical or spiritual culpability... • Correction • Knowing what to do to get it right... • Training in Righteousness • Through precept, promise, warning, exhortation, example, inference...

  5. What Does the Passage Teach? • Authority is determined by what God said, not by His silence! • Specific, the things God said • Generic, the options to do the specified • But, how does He “say” it? • Precepts (Commands/Statements) • Approved, apostolic Examples • Necessary Inferences

  6. Does Scripture Condemn Me? • Two areas of concern: • Belief • Behavior • Implications of scriptural censure: • Conscience - 1 John 3:18-21 “In whatever our heart condemns us… if our heart does not condemn us…” • Fellowship - 2 Corinthians 6:14-18, cf. Romans 16:17, “...keep your eye on...”

  7. Am I Doing What I Know? “You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them; and that from a child you have know the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation…” ~ 2 Timothy 3:14-15 ~

  8. Am I Handling It Rightly? • Dangers to avoid: • Applying cultural standard • Strengthening truth illegitimately • Acting out of bias from training or teaching • Question: Is it my intention to know and do what God said, regardless of what is required? Or is it to find approval for my actions, in spite of what God has said?
