  1. Keys Of the Kingdom Godly Character for a Godless World Love and War

  2. Cut It Out Matthew 5:27-32

  3. Matthew 5:38-42 38“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. Tough Love

  4. Matthew 5:43-48 43“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Tough Love

  5. Getting Even • Jesus spoke not of retaliation, but of a new way, of actually allowing ourselves to be wronged. • We are taught biblically to let God be our avenger, but that is not an easy pill for us to swallow. • We must be generous even to those who do evil to us and are unjust, but we must stand for God’s goodness.

  6. They Started It! • We make enemies of people who may not even realize they are our enemies. It is natural to make enemies and fight. • Love is unnatural and requires a choice, which makes it stronger than hate. Peace is stronger because it must be fought for as well. • Praying for our enemies good things usually keeps us from hating them.

  7. Key of the Kingdom • When we see tragedies and injustices, we can stand for God’s justice and righteousness by not retaliating the way the world does. • We use different weapons that are stronger and wield Godly power over vengeance and petty hatred. • We are challenged to live at peace with everyone and to pray for our enemies. It is the one of the hardest things we are called to do.
