  2. Dolphins • Dolphins are actually one of the only fish that are mammals. When they travel in a group they are called pods. Did you know that bottlenose dolphins have been seen breaching up to 16 feet in the air and land on their side or back?

  3. Jelly Fish • The jelly fish has a squishy top that does not shock or sting you. But the tentacles can sting or shock you.

  4. Lobsters • Lobsters are very unique. They have five legs and two claws which are called chelapeds or pincers. One is a heavier crusher claw and the other is a smaller feeding claw. Lobsters live in the sea.

  5. Octopus • Octopus vary greatly in size. Many octopus live in deep waters. The body of an octopus is soft and boneless. Octopus have short lives. Many live only one year or less.

  6. Penguins Most penguins live in Antarctica. They swim in the cold water but are protected by a thick layer of skin that makes them swim faster. Also, did you know that when the female lays an egg the male takes care of the egg for a whole winter without eating, sleeping, or even moving? If they do, they will drop the egg. But when the female penguins return, the baby penguins are there and the males can go hunt for themselves.

  7. Seahorses • Did you know the female seahorse carries the babies, but the male seahorse gives “birth” to them? Seahorses have no teeth and no stomach.

  8. Seals • Did you know that a seal’s under belly is like an insulator when they swim in the cold water? There are many types of seals. For example, the elephant seal, the Hawaiian monk seal, and the ribbon seal.

  9. Sea Turtles • Sea turtles are very unique. They have a hard shell that protects them from being attacked by a predator. Also, did you know that sea turtles actually lay their eggs on land? Then when the baby sea turtles hatch they make their way to the ocean or sea.

  10. Star Fish • The star fish is actually a carnivore and it can live up to 35 years. Did you know that star fish don’t have blood or a brain? Their blood is filtered salt water.

  11. Whales • Whales are very intelligent. The whales that are in captivity are usually used in shows to perform. But, if there is a whale in the wild, it is not trained so they can be very dangerous.

  12. A Letter To The Readers Hello my name is Sarah and I am 12 years old. I live in Fort Collins, Colorado. I like to read, ride my bike, and hang out with my friends. My favorite food is macaroni and cheese. I also have two dogs. One is named Lyla and the other is Charlie. Soon they are going to be having little puppies. I hope that these books will be useful and you learn about sea life creatures. Bye! Hello my name is Paz and I am 13 years old. I live in Fort Collins, Colorado. My favorite things to do are hang out with friends and family, go to the mall, and I love to have sleepovers with my friends. My favorite food is chicken. I am part Asian and part Mexican.
