  1. Eschatology Seminar Lecture 04: The Rise of the Antichrist Presented by Eternal Answers Ministry www.EternalAnswersMinistry.org

  2. Where does the term “Antichrist” come from? For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. -I John 2:17-21

  3. Where does the term “Antichrist” come from? Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. -1 John 4:1-3

  4. Where does the term “Antichrist” come from? And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward. Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. -2 John 1:6-11

  5. Antichrist — His Names From the Bible

  6. Similarities Between the Real Christ & the Antichrist

  7. Similarities Between the Real Christ & the Antichrist

  8. Fallen Angels • Lucifer • Lucifer is a name frequently given to a Satan in Christian belief. • This usage stems from a reference to a fallen angel in Isaiah 14:3-20 that speaks of someone who is given the name of "Day Star" or "Morning Star" as fallen from heaven.

  9. Fallen Angels • Lucifer • In the Latin Vulgate, Jerome translated the Hebrew heylel(“morning star, son of dawn”) as "lucifer qui mane oriebaris" (“morning star that used to rise early”) • The Greek etymological synonym of Lucifer, Eosphoros, ("light-bearer") is used of the “morning star” in 2 Peter 1:19 to refer to Christ and elsewhere with no relation to a Satan.

  10. Fallen Angels • Satan • The word Satan is from the Aramaic SHa’Tan • It is a job description, not a proper name. • Satan means “prosecutor” or “accuser.” .

  11. Fallen Angels • Lucifer and/or the Satan(s) are described by many names in the Bible • "Satan" (1 Chr 21:1; Job 1:6-9 & 12; Job 2:1-4 & 6-7; Psalm 109:6; Zech 3:1-2, Matt 4:10, 12:26, 16:23; Mark 1:13; 3:23 & 26, 4:15, 8:33; Luke 4:8, 10:18, 11:18, 13:16, 22:3 & 31; John 13:27; Acts 5:3, 26:18; Rom 16:20; I Cor 5:5, 7:5; II Cor 2:11, 11:14, 12:7; I Thess 2:18; II Thess 2:9; I Tim 1:20, Tim 5:15; Rev 2:9 & 13 & 24, 3:9, 12:9, 20:2 & 7) • "devil" (Lev 17:7; Deut 32:17; II Chr 11:15; Psalm 106:37; Matt 4:1, 5, 8, 11, & 24, 7:22, 8:16, 28, 31 & 33, 9:32-34, 10:8, 11:18, 12:22, 24 & 27-28, 13:39, 15:22, 17:18, 25:41; Mark 1:32, 34 & 39, 3:15 & 22; 5:12, 15-16 & 18, 6:13, 7:26 & 29-30, 9:38, 16:9 & 17; Luke 4:2-3, 5-6, 13, 33, 35 & 41, 7:33, 8:2, 12, 27, 29-30, 33, 35-36 & 38, 9:1, 42 & 49, 10:17, 11:14, 15 & 18-20, 13:32; John 6:70, 7:20, 8:44, 48-49 & 52, 10:20-21, 13:2; Acts 10:38, 13:10; I Cor 10:20-21; Eph 4:27, 6:11; I Tim 3:6-7, 4:1; II Tim 2:26; Heb 2:14; James 2:19, 3:15, 4:7; I Peter 5:8; 1 John3:8 &10; Jude 9; Rev 2:10, 9:20, 12:9, 12:12, 16:14, 18:2, 20:2 & 10) • "adversary" (I Peter 5:8; 1 Tim 5:14)

  12. Fallen Angels • Lucifer and/or the Satan(s) are described by many names in the Bible • "enemy" (Matt 13:39) • "accuser" (Rev 12:10) • "old serpent" (Rev 20:2) • "great dragon" (Rev 12:9) • “Beelzebub” aka “Prince of the devils” (Matt 10:25, 12:24 & 27; Mark 3:22; Luke 11:15, 18-19 though this may be a different fallen angel; Luke 11:18 equates Beelzebub & Satan, but as Satan can be a job description, it cannot be said with certainty that Beelzebub is therefore Lucifer) or “Lord of the Flies” (Ex 8:20-30; Ps 78:45; Ps 105:31) • “Belial” (Deut 13:13; Judges 19:22, 20:13; I Sam 1:16, 2:12, 10:27, 25:17&25, 30:22; II Sam 16:7, 20:1, 23:6, I Kings 21:10&13, II Chr 13:7; II Cor 6:15 though this may be a different fallen angel who nowhere is equated with Satan or Lucifer, but certainly had a following ie he was worshipped as a god by Canaanites)

  13. Fallen Angels • Luke 10:18, John 12:31, II Cor. 6:16, & Rev 12:9 describe or mention the fall of Satan • He is regarded as : • the author of all evil (Luke 10:19; Acts 5:3; II Cor 11:3; Eph 2:2) • the one who beguiled Eve (II Cor 11:3; Rev 12:9) • the one who brought death itself into the world (Heb 2:13) • being ever the tempter (ICor 7:5; I Thess 3:5; I Peter 5:8) • even as he tempted Jesus (Matt. 4) • being the “prince of this world” (John 12:31, 14:30, 16:11)

  14. Fallen Angels • Lucifer = Satan ? • Though the New Testament says that Jesus watched as Satan fell from heaven with the velocity of lightning (Luke 10:18; Rev. 12:7-10), it nowhere applies the name Lucifer to him • Lucifer is inferred from his acts & descriptions to be all that is attributed to Satan. • This is of some importance in that Lucifer’s association with all that is described may be that he is Satan in all these cases or he may be the leader of the Satan(s). • We simply don’t know. • Viewed as a force, however, the Satanic forces are very powerful & prevalent in the world today.

  15. Fallen Angels • Testing the Angels Assuming angels can and do communicate to humans, failure to properly test the angels has led to many grievous heresies, delusions and out & out evil doings in our world: • Joseph Smith, founder of the Mormon Church, claimed he was given the “new revelation” of the Book of Mormon from an angel called “Moronai.” Moronai’s revelation includes among other deviant teachings, the little tidbit that Jesus & Satan are actually only quarrelling brothers. • Charles Taize Russell, founder of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, claimed angels guided him in forming his interpretations of the Bible. Among these interpretations is the astounding claim that Jesus is actually just one of them ie an angel, specifically the arch-angel Michael.

  16. Fallen Angels • Testing the Angels • Mohammed claimed that an angel appeared to him & dictated the Qu’ran. This angel claimed that Jesus was a Muslim & that this Jesus is coming back to slaughter all Jews & Christians for distorting the sacred word of Allah. • The satanic rebellion described in the Qu’ran is seen by some Muslim Sufi teachers such as Mansur Al-Hallaj (in his Tawasin) as a predestined scenario in whichIblis-Shaitanplays the role of tragic and jealous lover who, unable to perceive the Divine Image in Adam and capable only of seeing the exterior, disobeyed the divine mandate to bow down. Thus Satan is the only true devotee to Allah.

  17. Fallen Angels • Testing the Angels • New Age gurus have picked up on this theme and followed it. New Age leader Joseph Campbell (1972: p. 148-149) illustrates an unorthodox Islamic reading of Lucifer's fall from Heaven, which champions Lucifer's eclipsing love for God: "One of the most amazing images of love that I know is in Persian – a mystical Persian representation as Satan as the most loyal lover of God. You will have heard the old legend of how, when God created the angels, he commanded them to pay worship to no one but himself; but then, creating man, he commanded them to bow in reverence to this most noble of his works, and Lucifer refused – because, we are told, of his pride. However, according to this Muslim reading of his case, it was rather because he loved and adored God so deeply and intensely that he could not bring himself to bow before anything else, and because he refused to bow down to something inferior to him (since he was made of fire, and man from clay). And it was for that that he was flung into Hell, condemned to exist there forever, apart from his love."

  18. Fallen Angels • Testing the Angels • There is actually little doubt that these individuals probably spoke to angels just as they claimed. • However, whenever a human is approached by an angel, according to Rev 12:9there is a one in three chance that you are going to get a fallen angel and we are commanded to test them: Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. -1 John 4:1

  19. Fallen Angels • Testing the Angels • There is actually little doubt that these individuals probably spoke to angels just as they claimed. • However, whenever a human is approached by an angel, according to Rev 12:9there is a one in three chance that you are going to get a fallen angel and we are commanded to test them: I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. -Galatians 1:6-9

  20. Fallen Angels • Testing the Angels • There is actually little doubt that these individuals probably spoke to angels just as they claimed. • However, whenever a human is approached by an angel, according to Rev 12:9there is a one in three chance that you are going to get a fallen angel and we are commanded to test them: … For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works. -II Corinthians 11:13-15

  21. Fallen Angels • Testing the Angels • The test is simple:. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.   -I John 4:2-4

  22. Return of the Nephilim • Recall the “they” that “mingle with the seed of men” in Daniel • Recall the “unknown DNA” in the Magogians (the northern Russians) • Recall that Jesus specifically pointed us to the “days of Noah” • Today, mankind has developed the means to “make” humans—cloning

  23. Return of the Nephilim • When a clone is made, where might be its soul? • Might they be Rephaim? The “walking dead ones?” • Might this then be a soulless body able to be inhabited by a disembodied Nephilim, a demon? • Rephaim are unable to access salvation (Isaiah 26:14; the word “deceased” is “Rephaim”; parallel Psalm 88:10 where “Rephaim” is translated as “the dead”)

  24. Return of the Nephilim • “Famous” DNA may have been collected through history to remake/clone recognizable individuals (Jude 9; why is the devil interested in Moses’ dead body?) • The one common factor running through virtually every UFO abduction is the “aliens” interest in the human reproductive process. • Further, God states that in the end times, there will be a specific “strong delusion,” a great “lie” sent to mankind so convincing that, were it not for God’s grace, even Christians might be deceived (2Thess 2:8-14; Matt 24).

  25. Return of the Nephilim • How can we identify these creatures in prophecy? • They were called “Nephalim” ie “the fallen ones” because they were the progeny of those that had fallen from heaven to earth, but were, they themselves, earth-bound, unable to ascend to heaven, not yet judged to hell (Jude 6). • When translating Genesis 6 into Greek for the Septuagint (LXX) (c. 3rd cent. BC), “Nephilim” was translated as “gigantes” which sounds like the English word “giants,” but that is not what it means.

  26. Return of the Nephilim • “Gigantes” is a noun form of the Greek “gigas” which means “earth-borne.” • They have become “demons” seeking embodiment and, embodied, they are “earth-dwellers.” • By this name we see them in the following passages: Rev 13; Rev 17; Rev 11:1-11; Rev 6:9-11; Rev 3:7-13; Luke 21:31-36; Rev 12:12; Isaiah 18:2-4; Nahum 1:4-6; Isaiah 51:5-7; Isaiah 24:5-7 • Jude 5-8 describes what these creatures enjoy. • First, Jude reminds the reader that even after saving the Israelites from Egypt, God destroyed those who were unfaithful & worshipped the golden calf (Exodus 32 cf Deut 9:6-8; were these creatures behind this event?). • Then Jude compares the activities of these creatures to Sodom & Gomorrah (Gen 18 & 19 cf Deut 23:17; commentary Deut 29:9-29). • Jude 16 further describes those that follow the ways of the Nephilim

  27. THEORY • The Antichrist will be a Nephilim clone (Rev 13:1) • He will be touted as a combination of the greatest men in history by another clone servant (Rev 13:11-12) brought about by DNA collection by “alien”/UFO technology. • The “aliens” (fallen angels remaining unchained) will arrive to “save” mankind (Luke 21:26) • As a cover for the rapture, the “aliens” will claim to have taken those who were not of the “advanced ethic” of nature worship. These together will constitute the “great lie”; • Though there will be those who will be saved during the Great Tribulation, those that had the opportunity before the beginning of this period will be subject to this great deception (2Thess 2:8-14)

  28. Daniel 7-The “Times of the Gentiles” • In Chapter 7, Daniel describes four beasts which he is told by an angel represent four kingdoms • These are the same four kingdoms Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream • Beasts 1, 2 & 3 are Babylon, Persia & Greece under Alexander • He then sees Beast number 4…Rome: After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. -Daniel 7:7 • Daniel can find no animal to compare this beast to it is so horrible. • We are told explicitly in v.24 that the 10 horns represent 10 kings .

  29. Daniel 7-The “Times of the Gentiles” • This is Rome: In & about the time of Christ, Rome had conquered & controlled: • Italy • Spain • Carthage (N. Africa) • Macedonia • Greece • Asia Minor • Judea • Britain • Gaul (France/Belgium) • Germania (Switzerland/Germany west of the Rhine) • Rome was sacked by the Visigoths in 410 signaling the fall of the western empire which culminated in a final cataclysm on September 4, AD 476 • However, it was not until 1453 that the last Roman or Byzantine ruler was killed in battle and Mohammed II conquered Constantinople (Cf. v. 24; Rev 17:12).

  30. Horn No. 11: The “Little Horn” I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things. -Daniel 7:8 • “...Little Horn”: an 11th horn. • “Eyes, mouth” = an individual. • “Big Mouth”: v.11; Rev 11:36; 13:5,6. One of his many titles in the Old Testament. • This “little horn” had an insignificant beginning but in its growth it was able to uproot three of the existing horns. (See vv. 19-26 for the identity of this fourth beast and its 11th horn.)

  31. The “Ancient of Days” I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. -Daniel 7:9 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. –Rev 1:13-15 I beheld then because of the voice of the great words which the horn spake: I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. -Daniel 7:11

  32. The “Ancient of Days” • As Daniel was watching the little horn because of its boasting (cf. v. 8) he saw that the fourth beast was slain and consigned to blazing fire. This event will terminate “the times of the Gentiles” (Lk 21:24, 27). Cf. Rev 19:19-21. I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed. -Daniel 7:13-14 • This is one of the most important references regarding the deity of Christ • Many mistakenly think that when Jesus claims to be the “Son of Man” that this is a claim to humanity; as we can see here, it is a claim to deity!

  33. The “Ancient of Days” • When Jesus at His trial claims “and you shall see the Son of Man coming on the clouds,” this is the passage to which He is referring, placing Himself in the stead of the Son of Man as God • As if there were any doubt of this claim, the High Priest at this point tears His clothes yelling “blasphemy!” (Matt 26:63-65). Would he be doing this if Jesus had just claimed to be a man? • Daniel seems to have had no difficulty in interpreting the significance of the first three beasts. • It was the fourth beast that caused him consternation, and at this point he asks the angel (probably Gabriel; cf. 8:16; 9:21) to interpret the meaning of the beast and its 10 horns and the other horn that came up among the 10 and was so imposing. • From this point on to the end of the prophecy, Daniel concerns himself with the revelation about the person and work of the individual represented by this little horn.

  34. The “Ancient of Days” 20] And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. 21] I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; • That “mouth” again • Several facts about this little horn had already been revealed to Daniel (v. 8): • It came after the 10 horns (kings; cf. v. 24) were in existence and then was contemporaneous with them • It uprooted 3 of the 10 horns (kings) • It was intelligent (it had the eyes of a man) • It was arrogant and boastful (cf. v. 11)

  35. The “Ancient of Days” 20] And of the ten horns that were in his head, and of the other which came up, and before whom three fell; even of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spake very great things, whose look was more stout than his fellows. 21] I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; • Now an additional, disturbing fact is given: • He will prevail against the saints of the Most High; He will overcome them (Cf. Rev 13:7) • This would appear to contradict Jesus’ promise to the Church (Mt 16:18) • they (these saints) are not the church, but the remnant of Israel (Rev 12:13-17) of whom 2/3 fall (Zech 13:8,9) & the Tribulation Saints (Gentiles saved during the Tribulation) • Question: If the anti-Christ can prevail against these saints, but they are not the Church, where is the Church? If it is still on the earth, how is it they are not “saints”?

  36. The “Ancient of Days” 22] Until the Ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom. 23] Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces • Question for the preterists who claim this kingdom was Rome: Did Rome ever possess & trample down the whole earth?

  37. The “Ancient of Days” 24] And the ten horns out of this kingdom are ten kings that shall arise: and another shall rise after them; and he shall be diverse from the first, and he shall subdue three kings. 25] And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time. • There’s that Big Mouth again...

  38. • Additional facts are now revealed: • He will oppose God’s authority. He will speak against the Most High (cf. Rev 13:6) • He will oppress His saints (i.e., Israel; cf. comments on 7:21) • He will introduce an entirely new era in which he will abandon all previous laws and institute his own system

  39. • Additional facts are now revealed: • As in 9:27a, he will appear as Israel’s friend, but will become Israel’s persecutor (the saints will be handed over to him) and he will occupy Jerusalem as a (“tabernacle”) of his empire (11:45) for three and one-half years (Rev 12:6; 13:5)

  40. • “Times” = dual, meaning specifically two: 1 + 2 + ½ = 3 ½ (Dan 7:25, Dan 12:7; Rev 12:14) • 3½ years Dan 9:27; 12:7 • 42 months Rev 11:2; 13:5 • 1260 days Rev 11:3; Dan 12:6 • ½ “week” Dan 9:27

  41. The “Ancient of Days” 26] But the judgment shall sit, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it unto the end. 27] And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. • Guess who wins? The Bible is like all good textbooks—it has the answers in the back of the book!

  42. The First Beast (of 2) And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. -Revelation 13:1-3 • His Physical Description: Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened. -Zechariah 11:17

  43. -Revelation 13:1-3 • Paul tells us that he will exalt himself above everything man even calls god but that he can not be revealed until after the church has fallen into complete apostasy (after the Rapture): Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?- 2 Thessalonians 2:3-5

  44. 2nd Beast: “False Prophet” And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed… And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. -Revelation 13:11-12, 14-18
