  2. Achieving the Emotional Connection • What is an Emotional Connection? A strong attachment to one or more people that can be very powerful

  3. How can we help our members form EC’s with others? • Understand women's needs in groups • Women connect through empathy • Look for things in common and focus on them • Plan chapter activities that help bonds form

  4. Do activities in your chapter help bonds form? • Give support to others, exchange compliments, personal stories • Do we allow our members to tell their personal stories? • It doesn’t matter what you want; it’s what they want

  5. So what does matter to her? • Who she is • What she values • Her passions in life • How you can help her and make her life easier • Sense of belonging and being understood • Altruism

  6. Interesting stats about women • 27% of women are head of household in the US- that’s 1 out of 4 • 85% of married women pay the bills • 49% of all professionals are women • 70% of new business start ups over the last decade are women

  7. Prime Time Women • 55 and over • Highest earning potential • Kids are grown • Time on their hands • Smart, savvy, educated • Growing by 76% over next 10 years

  8. Implication for your alumnae chapter • Women are busy- help them make connections and give them a reason to join • Give them the unexpected • Learn about your members- SURVEY

Examples of how to make connections • Offer her extra or new- free dues, prizes (unexpected) • Use national programs- free magazine, travel program, ZTAF programs that impact her life • Show how your chapter impacts her life- testimonials, personal stories, fun pics on website she can relate to • When women like something, they tell lots of other people- they can be your best recruiters • Communication- must survey them for their needs- if they don’t respond, call them and find out why. Use email, phone and postal mail
