  1. What is an Adverb? • Write your definition of an Adverb on your paper.

  2. Adverbs • Adverbs answer the questions how, when, where, and towhat extent. • An adverb is a word that modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

  3. Tips • Many adverbs are formed by adding the suffix –ly to adjectives. Sometimes a base word’s spelling changes when –ly is added. • Adverbs that modify adjectives or other adverbs usually come directly BEFORE the word they modify. They usually answer the question To What Extent?

  4. She eagerly dressed for school and ran to the bus. • She rose early this morning to get ready. • She met the bus outside of her subdivision. • She was totally excited about this new year!

  5. Identify the adverbs in each sentence. • There is a midnight sale at the mall. • Mary always goes to sales. • She bought a rather expensive necklace very cheaply. 4. She feels happy when she finds a real deal. 5. If you really want a good deal, stay close to Mary. 6. She is amazingly skillful in spending and saving money.
