  1. Uncovering the Quabbin A Local History Project involving Elementary Schools from the towns of Pelham, Petersham and New Salem Funded by the Massachusetts Department of Education, Fund Code 165 Coordinated by the Center for Computer-Based Instructional Technology, University of Massachusetts Amherst

  2. Continuation of Four-Year Project • Initial partnership between University of Massachusetts and Amherst Public Schools (Opening Windows to the Past) • Focus on study of primary source documents, local history, and student construction of websites • Year Three expanded to include districts outside Amherst such as Hatfield and Pelham (Living History Online)

  3. Focus for Uncovering the Quabbin • Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 in Petersham, New Salem and Pelham • Exploration of ways in which towns have been affected by the flooding of the Swift River Valley • Teacher study group meets monthly (on average) with support from UMass staff and a local archivist

  4. Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks Addressed • Massachusetts History and Social Science • Grade 3 Concepts and Skills, 3.8 – 3.14 • Grade 5 Concepts and Skills, 5.17, 5.19, 5.20 • Grade 6 Concepts and Skills (History and Geography)
