  5. Carbon Footprint • EcoLeaf Declaration • This is a voluntary initiative in Japan only • Not adopted outside Japan yet as no accepted international standard • Complies with a type 3 product declaration under ISO14025

  6. Management of Waste WEEE Regulations 2006 – came into force 2nd Jan 2007 Canon was already taking back replaced machines Canon branded paper is chlorine free Sustainably managed (high Grade) or 100% recycled pulp (Bright Recycled)

  7. Management of Waste - Recycling • Hardware • Remanufactured at Giessen, Germany • Sold via broker • Recycled using latest technology • Toner bottles • 3 year search • Guarantee 0% to landfill • Fully auditable system www.ereco.co.uk

  8. Lifecycle of hardware • 9% of profit spent on R&D • Designed to be easily recycled • No surface coatings to plastic panels • Parts easily separable • No hazardous chemicals • Research into bioplastics • Reduce reliance on fossil-fuel – derived polymers • Emerging technology

  9. Chemicals • Kyosei forbids Canon to use any chemical that may harm the environment • Canon released all RoHS compliant products in 2005 • In addition to the six chemicals under RoHS, Canon identified an additional seven that it has also removed

Health & Safety of Canon Products • All products CE marked & comply with RoHS, REACH, Batteries regulations • This means that any noise or electro-magnetic radiation emitted from Canon machines is at or well below EU limits • All user-replaceable parts are easy to remove and insert • All inks and toners are non-toxic and non-hazardous in normal use • i.e. not carcinogenic! Risk of explosion!

  12. Some ‘quick wins’ • Decrease your margin • Use a sans serif font – e.g. Arial, Verdana • Decrease your font size • Try ‘Ecofont’ (www.ecofont.eu) • Choose presentation colours wisely • Default to double-sided printingYES! YES!
