  2. What is Brainstorming? • Brainstorming is thinking of all your ideas and writing them down so you get all your ideas out and don’t forget them.

Ways to Brainstorm • Freewrite-Write about anything that comes to mind, for 15 minutes or so. • Listing/Bulleting-Make a list or bullet point your ideas. • Cubing-Consider your topic from 6 different perspectives, like a cube. • Clustering/Mapping/Webbing- Write the topic of your idea in the middle to top of the paper, and write down any ideas that pop into your head. • Charts/Shapes-Imagine things that your words shape, or just draw lines around your words to help you form ideas.

  4. Webbing This is a simple example of using webbing to brainstorm ideas.

  5. The Brainstorming Process • Pick your topic. • Categorize your ideas into groups or subtopics. • Brainstorm and write down ideas about topic. • Rank subtopic importance, from greatest to least. These will be the order your paragraphs go in. • Start your outline.
