Embracing Hope: Promoting "The Butterfly Project" Through Art

This project revisits the poster assignment from Chapter 2, focusing on promoting "The Butterfly Project," an initiative designed to support individuals struggling with self-harm. The Butterfly Project encourages individuals to draw a butterfly on the area where self-harm occurs, naming it after a loved one, to serve as a symbol of hope and healing. As the butterfly fades, it represents resilience; if self-harm occurs, the butterfly "dies," emphasizing the importance of self-control and self-love. This artwork aims to educate and inspire those seeking motivation to overcome their struggles.

  5. Poster • I had wanted to revisit the poster assignment from Chapter 2, this time centering the theme around the idea of promoting “The Butterfly Project”. • “The Butterfly Project” was created as an option for self-harmers who are ready to stop and need the motivation and support to do so. I wanted to make something promoting the concept for people who want to take part.

  6. The project itself centers around a simple set of guidelines. • Whenever someone feels the need to cut, they draw a butterfly over the spot where the self-harm occurs. They are encouraged to name the butterfly after a loved one and they aren’t allowed to scrub the butterfly off once it is on their arm. • Another person may draw their own butterfly them. • If the butterfly fades naturally without them cutting it lives, if they cut before it fades, it dies. • If they have multiple butterflies on their arm and they self-harm, all of them die.
