  2. An introduction to our library catalog system.

  3. You will learn how to: • Search for a book (or other object) • How to tell if the book is available for lending. • How to browse by keyword, subject, or author. • How to build a list of what you find for your reference. 5) Some of the advantages of having the catalog online.

  4. This is our home page. You can find it in the library at our dedicated library catalog computers. Or you can find it at home at this website: http://www.bradfordlibrary.org/. This way you can look up books at home before you come to the library.

  5. Our Catalog is Here On the left is the link menu. The library catalog link is right… HERE. Place your cursor on the link and left-click your mouse.

  6. That Brings you to the Library Catalog Page. It looks like this.

  7. You can see the OneScreenMcKean link in the center of the page, right… HERE.

  8. Again, place your cursor on the link and left-click your mouse. This will take you to the OneScreenMcKean collective library catalog. The home screen looks like this.

  9. Now what? You will notice there are links for each library in McKean County. Since we are in the Bradford Area Public Library we will use this library link in our examples on how to use the catalog. You will left-click on the Bradford Area Public Library link to open it up.

  10. This is what you will see. Click on the Catalog tab above. That will open up the actual catalog so you can look up what you want.

  11. It will look like this. You can see that there are several different ways you can search for what you want.

  12. Let’s practice with Keyword, Title, Author, Subject and Series first. We’ll leave the options to narrow the search until later.

  13. In the Find box below, type in a keyword of any kind. It can be anything you like. This is a good option if you: • have only a vague understanding of your topic and/or • Want to see as many options as possible

  14. You will get a large of list of subjects to play with an narrow down your search. Click on the green arrows to go forward or backward while you are looking.

  15. Type in the word Dog and hit the button. You can see that there are a LOT of books available. Probably too many, but you can refine your search by clicking on browse subjects.

  16. Use a Title Search when you know the title of the book you want to find in the Library For Example: The Dog Who Came In From the Cold Click on the button. This will be your result.

  17. Let’s look at this result more closely. • Here you can see that it is available for lending. • You will also find the call letters telling you where the book is placed on the shelves. • Notice the option to “Add to this List”
