  1. Symptoms and Treatments for Frozen Shoulder A frozen shoulder is a general term for shoulder pain and stiffness which in medical terms is known as Adhesive capsulitis. Frozen shoulder is not a type of arthritis, and other joints do not get affected by it. There is no apparent reason for its occurrence and can happen when a person suffers a fall, or the shoulder gets bumped. It occurs more in people who have diabetes. However, there are many frozen shoulder treatment in Ahmedabad. A frozen shoulder progresses in three stages, which are as follow: The first stage is marked by the starting of pain in the shoulder region. The pain gradually intensifies over a period of several weeks and months and starts radiating throughout the arm. The pain can be intense in the night time and can affect the movement of the shoulder a lot. In the second stage, the pain gradually subsides but can reoccur at times. Stiffness in the shoulder remains present, limiting the movement of the shoulder. This stage can last for 4-10 months. The third and final stage is the recovery stage in which the pain completely subsides, and the motor movement of the shoulder is restored. However, in some patients, the stiffness stays for longer duration and can experience pain at regular intervals over the span of years. Symptoms of frozen shoulder While suffering from frozen shoulder, one may experience any or all of the following problems:

  2. • Pain: Maybe sharp and radiate into the whole arm. Can be present when resting and during movement. • Stiffness: Movement of the shoulder can be severely restricted. • Loss of function: Activities such as eating, dressing, and driving can be challenging to carry out. • Sleep: Sleep may be disturbed when lying on the affected side of the shoulder or while changing the sleeping position. Treatment for frozen shoulder Complete recovery from this condition takes a long time. The aim for the treatment of this problem is to ease the pain and stiffness so that movement of the shoulder can be possible while the condition clears. Medication:Most of the pain specialists in Ahmedabad prescribe the patients that are suffering from this problem an anti-inflammatory tablet or painkillers like Paracetamol depending on patient suitability. These medications help in reducing pain and stiffness. Heat:Applying heat can ease the pain at times. Patients can use a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel for 10 minutes as frequently as required. It is vital to make sure that the pack is not too hot to burn the skin. Ice:Some patients find cold treatment as more effective than heat. A cold pack can be applied on the affected shoulder for not more than 15 minutes in every 4 hours. But ice should not be applied on the skin directly as it can cause ice burns. Exercise:Doctors advice moderate exercises to maintain the range of movement as it encourages the recovery from stiffness. Injections:In some cases where the patient is experiencing extreme discomfort, the doctor might apply a steroid injection into the affected part of the shoulder to ease the pain.
