DO OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY WORK
INTRODUCTION Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental disorder that affects the way a person thinks, feels, and sees the world around him. It is characterized by difficulties with communication, social skills, and repetitive behavior. It is called a spectrum because each person with autism has different strengths, goals, and special support needs.
occupational therapy Chicago play an important role in a child's journey with autism because they can support them to engage in meaningful daily life activities and roles in life. A child's life roles can be siblings, friends, and students. Occupational therapy most often focuses on developing social skills, play skills, emotion regulation, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, transition, organizational skills, attention, and cognition.
So, what do occupational therapists do to support children with autism? Support the family in the diagnosis process. This can be a devastating phase in your child's development, but there is plenty of support we recommend and can apply. Develop child-centered goals for OT and the child to work on in therapy sessions. These goals are frequently revised, monitored, and changed as the child develops.
Provide evidence-based interventions that target the child's goals. ABA therapy northwestern will support children to increase participation and independence in meaningful pursuits such as play or self-care. Provide assessments that help PL adapt activities to provide the right challenge for the child.
