  1. BALTIMORE MUSEUM OF ART SCULPTURE GARDEN The Baltimore Museum of Art was originally constructed in 1914. In 1981, a major addition was constructed that included new exhibit galleries, an amphitheater, a gift shop and an adjacent sculpture garden. Dan Calistrat, the author of this presentation, was the Structural Engineer for the project.

  2. The sculpture garden was placed in a beautifully landscaped area, and was named for its major contributors that donated funds and art objects. In 1988, a second sculpture garden was added.

  3. Modern art, is art created from the 19th century to the mid-20th century by artists who veered away from the traditional concepts and techniques of painting, sculpture, and other fine arts that had been practiced since the Renaissance. Nearly every phase of modern art was initially greeted by the public with ridicule, but as the shock wore off, the various movements settled into history, influencing and inspiring new generations of artists. I personally am not very fond of modern art objects. But if some of them are pleasing to the eye and stir an enjoyable emotion upon viewing, then the artist succeeded in his or her purpose to entertain the mind. Many times I cannot understand the name given to an art object, but I accept that the artist and the viewer have different ways of looking at them.
