  2. The Constitution is a document that explains how our government works.

  3. The Bill of Rights is the first ten amendments (or additions) to the United States Constitution.

  4. The Bill of Rights lists and protects the freedoms that you have.

  5. First Amendment You have religious freedom to worship as you please. You have freedom of speech to say whatever you want.

  6. First Amendment You have freedom of the press to publish whatever you want in a newspaper or book. You have the freedom to peacefully meet in groups (assembly).

  7. First Amendment You have the freedom to complain to the government about its actions (petition). Petition

  8. Second Amendment You have the right to own a gun (bear arms).

  9. Third Amendment You don’t have to let soldiers live in your home during peace time. (Quarter soldiers)

  10. Fourth Amendment You or your property can’t be searched or taken without your permission or without a warrant from a judge.

  11. Fifth Amendment You can’t be tried for a crime unless there is enough evidence against you; You don’t have to say anything if you are put on trial.

  12. Sixth Amendment You have the right to a speedy and public trial.

  13. Seventh Amendment You have the right to a trial by jury when you have a disagreement with another person. Civil Case

  14. Eighth Amendment You are protected from cruel and unusual punishment even if you are convicted of a crime.

  15. Ninth Amendment You have more rights than just those listed in the Constitution.

  16. Tenth Amendment Powers not given to the U.S. government belong to the states or to the people.
