Contrast helps to highlight and focus attention. Contrast may be achieved using color, shades of gray, size, visual weight, and so forth. Repetition helps to unite a document so that it looks like a coherent whole. Repetition may be achieved by repeating fonts, styles, images, and so forth. Alignment helps to organize information to make it clearer and more professional looking. Alignment may be achieved using onscreen guidelines. Proximity helps to establish relationships between items. Items in close proximity appear related.
