IMPROVE THE CLARITY AND CONSISTENCY OF K-12 CURRICULA Minimum requirements for skills at each grade level • EHS and CMS Honors Algebra common mid-term and final exams • EHS and CMS World Language common exam • EHS and CMS common formal science lab report • Integration of English Language Arts CCSS into social studies and science curriculum • EHS and CMS Language Arts teachers communicating to develop common rubric defining a 5- paragraph essay

DEDICATE TIME FOR TEACHERS TO DEVELOP, COORDINATE AND REVIEW CURRICULAR CHANGES TO ACHIEVE A CONSISTENT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM Teacher mentor program and on-site professional development • Revision of SAU 16 mentor/mentee handbook • Summer 2012 full day mentor training • Mentor/Mentee half day orientation • Common Core Math State Standard Summer Professional Development • Common Core awareness activities

INCREASE RIGOR THORUGHOUT CURRICULUM; AND CLARITY, AS WELL AS PROMOTE, ALL POSSIBLE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Quality literature, emphasize core skills, improve essay writing • English Language Arts Common Core State Standards and integration of skills into social studies, science and technology curriculum • EHS and CMS teacher communication for essay writing

INCREASE RIGOR THORUGHOUT CURRICULUM; AND CLARITY, AS WELL AS PROMOTE, ALL POSSIBLE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Review math curriculum • SAU 16 math committee reviewed and revised essential local essential skills • Alignment to Common Core State Standards K-5 • EHS competencies aligned to CCSS • CMS math curriculum aligned to CCSS

INCREASE RIGOR THORUGHOUT CURRICULUM; AND CLARITY, AS WELL AS PROMOTE, ALL POSSIBLE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Use of scientific method and lab based curriculum • SAU 16 science committee integrated applicable english language arts common core standards • Developed science inquiry continuum • EHS/CMS common formal lab reports • Developing template to “unpack” essential skills

INCREASE RIGOR THORUGHOUT CURRICULUM; AND CLARITY, AS WELL AS PROMOTE, ALL POSSIBLE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Extensive writing in Social Studies • K-5 SAU 16 essential skills include English Language Arts common core standards which include writing standards • 6-12 in process of integrating in English Language Arts Common Core standards

INCREASE RIGOR THORUGHOUT CURRICULUM; AND CLARITY, AS WELL AS PROMOTE, ALL POSSIBLE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Support Visual and Performing Arts • SAU supported release time for professional development in curriculum revision with consultant Sandy Nicolucci • SAU 16 music committee finalized vision statement • Currently meeting outside school time to revise curriculum • Planning SAU 16 end of year concert • Each district committed funds to support curriculum work in 2012-13 school year

IMPROVE THE STATISTICAL VALIDITY AND CONSISTENCY OF K-12 ASSESSMENTS Annual exit assessments • SAU 16 English Language Arts , math, science, and social studies committee working with common template to define what students should know and be able to do and how to assess mastery of essential skills

IMPROVE THE STATISTICAL VALIDITY AND CONSISTENCY OF K-12 ASSESSMENTS Use assessments to inform instruction • Response to Intervention framework in all school improvement plans and professional development provided • Teachers examining local and national assessment data to inform instruction in faculty meetings, teacher workshop days, and in professional learning communities

  21. SAU 16 VISION STATEMENT To provide a rigorous and comprehensive education that will prepare our students for diverse post-secondary educational opportunities, a competitive workplace, and active civic participation
