  1. Fermi Users Group FSSC Status Report Chris Shrader, Fermi Science support Center NASA/GSFC Fermi Users Group Meeting Goddard Space Flight Center, December12, 2013 C. Shrader, NASA/GSFC

  2. FSSC Status, Major Activities • P7R & ST release completed last month • Updated docs online, user support ongoing • GI Cycle-7 schedule and planning • Operations support; • Resources for GI assessment of new observation strategies in place • User support • Help desk activity and publication rate indicative of strong community engagement Fermi Users Group Meeting Goddard Space Flight Center, December12, 2013 C. Shrader, NASA/GSFC

  3. A few FSSC Highlights • Over 100 Tb of data served to community • Recent spike to ~103 queries per day • CALDB support, solar flare/GRB tools to be in next ST release • User contributed tools from FSSC • Scripted analyses, GRB (LAT) background analysis tool, GUI quick-look tool • New LAT GRB catalog • Enhanced information content • Links to data products, Browse capabilities • Alt-observation strategies: user support in place Fermi Users Group Meeting Goddard Space Flight Center, December12, 2013 C. Shrader, NASA/GSFC

  4. Cycle 7 GI Program • Fermi ROSES NRA amendment reissued 11/04/13 (delayed ~2 weeks due to government shutdown) • Proposals due 01/31/14 • Review in late April 14 (after SR) • Stage-I selection announcements late May/early June (assuming no issues) Fermi Users Group Meeting Goddard Space Flight Center, December12, 2013 C. Shrader, NASA/GSFC

  5. Cycle 7 GI Program • No significant programmatic changes • As per FUG recommendation multi-year options, Large Projects still offered • Anticipate $4M, of which ~$500k is obligated for multi-year continuations • Money for new grants is comparable to the Cycle-6 when obligations are accounted for • In Cy-6 post-sequester acceptance rate was 22% Fermi Users Group Meeting Goddard Space Flight Center, December12, 2013 C. Shrader, NASA/GSFC

  6. GI Program History Fermi Users Group Meeting Goddard Space Flight Center, December12, 2013 C. Shrader, NASA/GSFC

  7. A Few Issues • Compliancy issues; Formatting guidelines ignored in ~5% of proposals • Prominent “reminder” on web site • Response to Arecibo joint program was disappointing • Advertise better; sent reminder to Fermi news • Advertise at AAS (both observatories) • NRA changes: • Describe alternative observing mode impacts, opportunities Fermi Users Group Meeting Goddard Space Flight Center, December12, 2013 C. Shrader, NASA/GSFC

  8. Cycle 7 Schedule • Proposals due Jan 31,2014 • 2 weeks slip due to shutdown • Peer review: late April, 2014 • Grants: Slip by 1-2 months for FY budget phasing • Fund all Cycle-7 grants to be issued in FY15 Fermi Users Group Meeting Goddard Space Flight Center, December12, 2013 C. Shrader, NASA/GSFC

  9. Cycle 7 Schedule Extra Slides Fermi Users Group Meeting Goddard Space Flight Center, December12, 2013 C. Shrader, NASA/GSFC

  10. Cylcle-6 Summary • Summarize… Fermi Users Group Meeting Goddard Space Flight Center, December12, 2013 C. Shrader, NASA/GSFC
