  1. Positives of Tidal Energy Cydney Lawrence 8-L

  2. Table of Contents • What is Tidal Energy? • Map • Benefits of Tidal Energy

  3. What is it? • Created by harvesting the energy of ocean tides • There are three kinds in existence right now: • Tidal Barrages • Tidal Fences • Tidal Turbines

  4. Tidal Barrages (dam) • High and low tide of, or more than, 16ft • Gates located along the dam • Water flow opens the gates • Water will then turn the turbines • Turbines turn a generator producing electricity

  5. Tidal Fences • Look like giant turnstiles • Water flows through turnstiles • Currents spin turnstiles producing energy

  6. Tidal Turbines • Work just like wind turbines • Lined up in rows under water • Currents spin the turbine producing electricity

  7. Where Tidal Energy Could be HarnessedAround 100 Possible Locations

  8. Pros of Tidal Energy • Renewable • Non-polluting • Predictable • Reliable • Doesn’t cost much to operate • Long term low maintenance cost • Strong tidal waves can generate a high amount of electricity • With 80% more efficiency than coal or oil • 30% more than solar
