  2. What we know… • House Bill 2732: Move on when Reading • 2014-2015 PARCC Common Core National Assessment • Focused instructional time based on individual needs is imperative • Additional time with high-quality reading instruction is required Prevention is the best intervention

  3. Data Driven • Assessments are consistent across the district • DRA2, Dictation, Letter ID, Letter Sounds, and Phoneme Segmentation tested each quarter • Assessments monitored in D2SC • Quarterly review of skills and focus groupings • Groups are based on smart goals tied to data

  4. Focused Targets Example: MTA 3-group rotations/smart goals • Group 1:Using dictation assessment, students will hear and record at least 22 phonemes by Dec. 16 • Group 2:Using dictation assessment, students will hear and record at least 32 phonemes by Dec. 16 • Group 3: Using dictation assessment, students will apply six 3-letter word families by Dec. 16

  5. Acceleration • Teachers accelerated the introduction of letters and sounds to be an end of 2nd quarter expectation versus end of year expectation • 76% currently at mastery • Teachers now move on to other skills

  6. How are we doing? DIBELS District Mid-Year Composite Data • 19% of students moved from at-risk to Core/Benchmark in Kinder 2010 • 24% of students moved from at-risk to Core/Benchmark in BUILD/INVEST 2011

  7. Additionally… • Core/benchmark students this year scored 10% higher in their DIBELS performance than their peer group from previous year

Kinder Reflections • Continue to monitor goal setting and goal progress during job-alike TCT’s and team collaboration time • Design instructional rotations to meet the needs of individual students based on data • Ensure fidelity of kinder model with administrative presence at meetings and classroom visits • Continue professional development workshops to strengthen instructional skills
