5 Performance of oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus sp.) using different sources PDF
Performance of oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus sp.) using different sources

Mushroom cultivation was reported as an economically viable bio-technology process for conversion of various lignocellulosic wastes. Given the lack of technology know-how on the cultivation of mushroom, this study was conducted at the Institute of Agricultural Technology, Isabela State University, Cauayan Campus, with the aim to evaluate the effect of different substrates on spawn running time, primordial initiation time, yield performance, and biological efficiency of oyster mushroom. Accordingly, substrates such as banana leaves, grasses, acacia leaves, corn stalk/ leaves were tested

The presence of zoonotic protozoans and nematodes on contaminated street food

Street food consumption has been a popular staple food in both developed and underdeveloped countries including the Philippines. These street foods were commonly dipped into different sauces like soy sauce, ketchup, and vinegar to improve flavor and moisture. In many cases, these dipping sauces can be contaminated with zoonotic protozoans and nematodes because of improper sanitation practices by the vendors and consumers as well as because of non-hygienic food preparation, storage, and handling. Consequently, these sauces can be a major source of infection for the person ingesting them.

In-vitro Inhibitory Indices of Selected Fungal Isolates against Mycotoxin Fungi

Limited fungal-based biocontrol products are available for use against mycotoxins in food and feed industry in Kenya. In filling this gap, in-vitro inhibitory assessment of six mycotoxin and nine non-mycotoxin species isolated from Western Kenya were placed on growth media using dual and modified plating techniques to determine the percentage inhibitions, capacity to form inhibition zones and degree of general antagonism on growth of mycotoxin fungi. The cultures were incubated at 25-27oC under 12-hour dark and 12-hour light conditions aseptically.

Predictive modeling of the rate of occurrence favorable to Cola attiensis

Climate change poses a pressing challenge to the distribution patterns of plant species, necessitating innovative approaches to predict occurrence rates in affected ecosystems. In this study, we focus on Cola attiensis, an economically and ecologically important plant species endemic to Cu00f4te du2019Ivoire. Our novel methodology employs a nomogram, traditionally used for intricate mathematical equations, to model the intricate relationships between topographic, climatic variables, and the presence of C. attiensis.

Effect of haricot bean varieties (Phaseolus vulgaris)- Camelina (Camelina sativa

Cereals-haricot bean intercropping is one of the commonly practiced agronomic practices in Ethiopia. Intercropping is the production of two or more crops simultaneously in both space and time. Field experiments were conducted at Wachemo University main campus experimental field site, from June to October during the years 2022 cropping seasons. The aim of the study was to determine optimum space of intercropping haricot bean into the camelina cropping system under field condition. The experiment was laid out in completely randomize block design with combination of four haricot bean varieties,

Determining the classification of dry beans using WEKA

The significant variety in bean shape and size makes dry bean classification a difficult task. Traditional categorization procedures, such as hand sorting, are time-consuming and labor-intensive. Machine learning approaches appear to be a potential option for dry bean classification. A machine learning classification approach for dry beans using WEKA was offered in this research. The approach employs Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Support Vector Machine (SVM), k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN), and Decision Tree (DT) machine learning algorithms.

Prevalence of Endoparasites in Two Commercially Important Fish Sardinella lemuru

Fish often serves as a staple food and protein source. Most Filipinos depend on fishing activities as a means of living. Fish parasites are diverse and pervasive organisms affecting a variety of hosts, including commercially important fish. Despite being utilized for commercial purposes, limited studies on fish parasitism are done in the Caraga region and are published in the Philippines. This study is one of the few conducted on the prevalence of parasites from the coast of Cabadbaran City and Lake Mainit in Jabonga, Agusan Del Norte, Phils.

The forecasting of Cattle (Bos taurus) production in the Philippines

Cattle (Bos taurus) production forecasting is an important part of the agricultural industry, especially in the Philippines, where the livestock industry is a big part of the income and food security. The goal of this study is to determine possible algorithms that can be used to predict the quantity of cattle production based on the historical data taken from the Philippine Statistical Authority. Advanced statistical methods of predicting the cattle production are used to look at the data and find the most important factors that affect cow production.

Field validation of heat tolerance and early morning flowering QTLs

Heat stress reduces rice yield by 10% for every degree Celsius increase beyond optimum temperature. Field testing of IR64-derived near-isogenic lines with heat tolerance and early morning flowering QTLs was conducted at CSU Piat during hottest months of 2016-2017. To evaluate how well IR64 NILs tolerated heat, morpho-agronomic data were collected and analyzed when they were subjected to high temperature at field conditions. Flower opening time (FOT), the peak flowering time (PFT), and the time when all of the flowers are closed (FCT) were also determined for early morning flowering traits

Growth and rhizome yield of Ginger (Zingiber officinale) using plantlets

In ginger farming, the budget for matured rhizomes as planting material is usually the highest among the cost of production. To reduce the budget cost, the study used plantlets with different initial heights as planting material. The plantlets were propagated through sowing matured rhizomes and were gathered two months after sowing. The treatments of the study are: T0 u2013 25g (rhizome sett), T1 u2013 20cm (initial height of plantlets), T2 u2013 30cm, T3 u2013 40cm and T4 u2013 50cm. This study evaluated the height and number of tillers of the ginger during their 3rd and 5th months after transplanting (MAT)

9 Toxicological effects of the essential oil of Premna angolensis leaves used PDF
Toxicological effects of the essential oil of Premna angolensis leaves used

Cereals are increasingly attacked by Sitotroga cerealella, a highly destructive and economically important insect pest. The need to control this micro Lepidoptera to reduce its pressure on rice stocks is therefore acute. Today, the use of plant extracts, particularly essential oils, is a promising natural alternative to synthetic insecticides in the fight against crop pests. The objective of this study was to evaluate the acute oral toxicity of Premna angolensis in rats in order to propose an effective means of controlling S. cerealella in rice stocks without adversely affecting human health.

Puntius binotatus is a native fish species in Bayog, Zambaonga del Sur, Philippines. It is locally know as u201dpaitan or pait-paitu201d. Exposure to various environmental conditions, fishes are capable of making adaptations to enable them to survive. One of the manifestations of environmental conditions is their body shape morphology. It is a and indication of what kind of environment that the fishes are living in or the habit that they have. The environment is indeed known as a major force in modelling the morphology of an organism during ontogeny.
