Security • Read test security agreement carefully • Employment and license are in play • We do not want anyone to lose a job over test security/procedures • We do want all students to be assessed fairly

New Assessments and SOL’s • New math standards and tests this year The following new end-of-course (EOC) tests are being offered beginning in the fall 2011 test administration: • EOC120 Algebra I (2009) • EOC129 Plain English Algebra I (2009) • EOC121 Geometry (2009) • EOC122 Algebra II (2009) • Math retests (previously passed course not test - take old tests. • College ready score replaces pass advanced in algebra II (only) this year.
New Test Codes for Fall 2011 • Students who are instructed in a full course of Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II in the fall 2011 semester and are awarded a standard credit in the course at the end of the fall 2011 semester should take these new tests. • When doing expedited retests use these codes. • http://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/practice_items/index.shtml • Practice items above
New Assessments and SOL’s • Reading, writing and science in 2012-13 • New standards are out • Grades k-2 should be teaching new SOL’s now. • Grades 3-5 implement new SOL’s next year • College ready score replaces pass advanced in algebra II this year. • New math tests means delay in reporting scores. • Science and English grades 6-8 and EOC should teach old SOL’s and awareness of new.

Technology Enhanced Items • Field tested in reading and writing this spring. • Also in science this spring. • Give students practice through the training side of Pearson. • Testnav 7 not yet enabled on elementary and middle grade computers. Will be soon.
The Basics • Writing test is administered in two parts • Multiple Choice section on March 8. • Direct Writing (also called short paper) on March 9 • The two sections are combined into one writing test score. • Both sections of test go in one answer document. • If a student uses a word processor accommodation the response must be transcribed into an answer document by teacher. • A student cannot get a score without completing both sections.
More Basics • Make up testing • The regular form of the MC test is used for make ups (student was absent on the regular test day) • For direct writing make ups use the alternate prompt. • Be sure that the MC form number and the direct Writing prompt number are coded on the answer document.
More Basics • Inventory test materials when they arrive • Be aware of accommodations • Word processing accommodations • Testing rooms should not have displays that could give clues to content of test. • Needed materials • Scratch paper for all tests • Dictionary for short paper test only • No thesaurus • Audio tapes/recorders for read aloud sessions. • Calculators, protractors, rulers, pencils. Read manual.
Pre-ID labels • Have not yet arrived. • Will deliver to school upon arrival • I recommend placing labels on answer sheets after students test. • BE CAREFUL – • Billy Johnson written name – Sally Jones on PRE-ID
Test Day • Deliver materials to teacher or have them pick up from you. • Use The examiners/proctors transmittal form to document the number of tests or prompts. • Pick up tests or prompts from the teachers • Tests and prompts must be kept secure by the teacher while in their possession. • Teacher should deliver each test/prompt to each student and take them up from each student. – not hand them down row.
Test Day • Count test booklets as they are returned to you. • Count answer documents as they are returned to you. • Scratch paper is to be shredded • Examiner’s manuals are discarded. (keep 1 for reference) don’t send back to me.
Irregularities • Call 245-5121 or 836-0718 for irregularities • Student became ill and could not complete the test • For MC Gordon will provide the irregularity form of the test – we may use “fresh” answer document or erase responses on original. • For Direct Writing the alternate prompt is use for the make up. • Cheating, major disruptions, Fire alarm other factors that can affect the students’ scores – call Gordon.
Examples • A student becomes ill during testing. • A student is observed cheating during the testing session. • An Examiner, a teacher, or another adult provides improper assistance to a student. • Testing accommodations specified in a student’s IEP, 504 Management Plan, or LEP Student Assessment Participation Plan are not provided. • A student is provided an accommodation that is not specified in her/his IEP, 504 • Management Plan, or LEP Student Assessment Participation Plan. • An excessive disturbance or disruption occurs during the testing session. • A student’s test booklet, writing prompt, or used answer document is missing. • Any unused/unassigned test booklet or writing prompt is missing.
Returning Materials • Answer documents • Separate documents by homeroom/classroom for ease of counting and handling. • Only Answer docs and header sheets go in box. – Nothing else!!
Term Grad • Answer docs for term grad students go on top in Set A • Both answer docs • These are scored first and automatic appeals apply. • Mark 2nd attempt • Term grad in Pearson
Set B • Test booklets and prompts • Verify numbers with packing lists • Put test booklets and prompts in boxes. • Special forms including examiner’s copies of audio forms and audio tapes provided with audio tests • Place verified and signed packing lists in top of box 1. Nothing else.
Set C • School Affidavit – page 53 in TIM • Security Agreements • Assembly ID sheets • Unused pre-ID labels • Recordings of read aloud sessions • Transmittal forms for tests and test tickets

Special Assessment AccommodationsProcedures for Submitting Requests • Complete the Special Assessment Accommodation Request electronically • Submit using the SSWS Dropbox by the DDOT • Each request will be individually reviewed • Access needs of the student • Standardization and test security • Response sent through the Dropbox to the DDOT • Approved • Approved with Conditions • Denied
General Accommodation Issues • Accommodation must be documented on the student’s IEP or 504 Plan • Accommodation must be used during instruction and classroom assessments • Accommodations should provide access to the assessment, not an advantage • Accommodations should not violate test security or standardized procedures
#8 – Prompting Examples • Types of prompts allowed: • “Take your time.” • “Relax and do your best.” • “Remember you may read the passage/question aloud.” • Tap on the student’s desk • Accommodation Code 27B (non-standard) • Prompts not allowed: • Tap on the student’s test document • “Choose an answer.” • Verbal or non-verbal count • Take a look at number 7 • Be careful to use proper vocabulary
Dictation to a Scribe • The scribe may: • Spell words correctly • Write exactly what the student dictates • The scribe may not: • Capitalize or punctuate • Prompt in any way • If the student with a disability has the accommodation on his/her IEP/504 Plan the scribe may: • Use a word processor • Read the draft to the student.
Word Prediction Software May be used on the Writing Short Paper • Allowed features • Selection of single words from student generated keystroke(s) • Dictionary appropriate to the student’s grade level • Not Allowed features • Prompting for spelling checking • Grammar checking • Prediction of phrases • Thesaurus
Graphic Organizers • Allowed: • Blank graphic organizers with no words or numbers of any kind • May be software program or paper • Not Allowed: • Any graphic organizer with any words, letters, or numbers
Speech to Text Word Processor • Must disable natural punctuation and macros • Must disable other features not allowed for word processors • Code as Dictation in English to a scribe - #25
