  11. The Shofar...

  12. The Shofar – A Special Form of Prayer It’s a Jewish musical instrument made by removing marrow from the horn of a ram, sheep, or goat. The shofar is much more than a simple musical instrument. For Jews it is a spiritual tool that awakens their souls, providing a primal form of prayer during the highest holy days of the year.

  13. The Shofar was blown: - Moses ascended Mt Sinai to receive the 10C’s. - Used in Joshua in capturing the city of Jericho. - During times of the First and Second Temples, along with trumpets to mark important occasions and ceremonies. - To announce the start of holidays and wars throughout Jewish history.

  14. When do we blow the Shofar? The shofar is blown on “The Day of the Shofar Blast,” the Jewish New Year, or Rosh Hashanah. Jews are commanded in the Bible to hear the blasts of the shofar on both days of Rosh Hashanah, unless it is the Sabbath when the shofar is not blown. The Shofar is also sounded on the Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur, as a call for repentance, self-sacrifice, and ultimately redemption. 15

  15. The Hebrew for atonement is “kipur” or “kippur”, from “kapar” to cover (specifically with bitumen); figuratively, to expiate or condone, to placate or cancel, appease, make (an atonement, cleanse, forgive, be merciful, pacify, pardon, purge (away), put off, (make) reconcile(liation) “kapar” 1st use, Genesis - Noah’s Ark

  16. "A CALL TO AWAKEN" • Sound of the trumpets • Pierce our souls and call us to attention. • When you hear the trumpet blast, Ask God to reveal if you are not where you need to be. • Trumpets bring us into a time to… 17

  17. The 10 days after Trumpets “Days of Awe” • Also called days of ”Teshuvah”, meaning • "TURN" & “RETURN” • Word for REPENT …alsoSPRING! • When God gives you a wake-up call, it’s time to turn from anything that hinders, and return to God. • These Days of Awe lead us to... 18

  18. “I have wiped out your transgressions like a thick cloud, and your sins like a heavy mist. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you! - Isaiah 44:22

  19. The Day of Atonement is a day to put your sins under the blood of the Lamb, and be fully restored to God and His purposes.
