  1. MEASURING OUR WORTH “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him, And the son of man that You care for him?” (Psa. 8:3-4).

  2. Questions • Kids – 4-9, “What are you worth?” “Are you good for anything?” • They smile or laugh. They know their worth. • From 10 or 13 on we doubt. • It’s insecurity. Guilt. Fostered by attitudes and comments from parents, grandparents, “friends”, teachers.

  3. The Basis of “Worth” • Our unit of measure becomes, not “who we are”, but how well we perform. Any task. • Consider a mountain. Or the sky. Or a wonderful painting. • They only reflect the greatness of the Creator. • We need to reconsider how we measure our worth.

  4. Limitations • The richest person in the world. • The most beautiful or handsome person. • Most athletic. But in which sport. Michael Jordan and baseball. • So we narrow the field. In Texas. In Houston. Why don’t we pick a smaller town.

  5. The Other View – Reflecting Our Creator • Intellect & Imagination. • Jules Verne. • Abraham and Moses didn’t “see” a nation. God did. • But a family is more realistic for us. • A company – small though it be. Can it benefit mankind, or God’s family.

  6. The Will of Man (Free-will) • Mountains, sea and sky glorify God, but not willingly – Psalm 148 • We can say “I will”, or “I won’t” to God. • “If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know of the teaching, whether it is of God or whether I speak from Myself” (Jn. 7:17). • How does God value my respect for Him? • Does that matter to me? Rom. 7:14-25

  7. Our Potential • What did God do to make us worthwhile? • Made us in His image. • The death of Jesus to keep us going – John 3:16 • Of all our possibilities – the spiritual is the greatest. • Don’t limit yourself

  8. “God Who Stretched the Spangled Sky” Catherine Cameron • God, who stretched the spangled heavens, Infinite in time and place, Flung the suns in burning radiance Thru the silent fields of space. We, Your children, in Your likeness, Share inventive powers with You: Great Creator, still creating, Show us what we yet may do.

  9. (verse 2)“We have conquered worlds undreamed of Since the childhood of our race; Known the ecstasy of winging Thru uncharted realms of space; Probed the secrets of the atom, Yielding unimagined power, Facing us with life’s destruction Or our most triumphant hour.”

  10. (verse 3) “As each far horizon beckons, May it challenge us anew, Children of creative purpose, Serving others, honoring You. May our dreams prove rich with promise, Each endeavor well begun: Great Creator, give us guidance Till our goals and Yours are one.”
