Rider University, Lawrenceville, NJ and Sanda University, one of the first private institutions in Shanghai, China, have an educational partnership.  Currently two Sanda student cohorts living and attending school at Rider University Selected core business courses offered at Sanda by Rider faculty

  4. Teach a 14-week senior business capstone course in 6 weeks • As a hybrid course • To a large group of Chinese students in Shanghai • First time teaching DL • First time teaching abroad

Course: • CIS-485 Management Information Systems • Objectives: • To prepare graduating students for a dynamic, increasingly global business environment by facilitating their understanding of IT-enabled change. • Methodology: • Hybrid course offering – • Two weeks of face-to-face in China • Four 4 weeks of distance education from NJ • Audience: • 42 Chinese students

  6. 42 Chinese students who • Had varying degrees of English comprehension • Thought they would be finished with classes in December • Were informed • They were required to take this class in February and March • Instead of working in the field on their co-ops • The class would be half distance education • Were the first students at Sanda to participate in DL

  7. Syllabus • Lecture, Discussion, Hands-on • Technologies Used • Blackboard™ • SAP R/3 • Course Wiki • Video Conferencing • Including weekly ‘lessons learned’ revisions  • Technologies added to improve DL experience • Adobe Captivate • MSN Messenger • Webcam

  8. Work with your IT organization early • Know the “Players” on both sides • Have Dean’s complete support • Read a few good books before you start… • Keep everything on a USB disk drive • Be prepared for the unexpected!
