Out of these 945 are Upper-Primary schools. Avehi Abacus Project - Sangati, works with all 945 schools (in 8 languages). Location and Outreach
Sangati (children) The Sangati series is intended to serve as a foundation course to enrich and supplement the school curriculum. It consists of six interactive learning kits for teachers and children in formal schools and Non-formal Education (NFE) centres. In formal schools, teachers can use it as a foundation course for Classes V – VII. In non-formal schools/groups, it can serve as a post-literacy programme for children between the ages of 10 and 16. • Manthan (teachers) Manthan finds space within the existing structure in order to begin the process of reform, instead of supplanting what already exists. Its approach is to supplement rather than replace the mainstream curriculum. Further, the course is to be conducted by ‘regular’ teacher educators (that is, those teaching in teacher training colleges) rather than by external agencies or other ‘experts’.Manthan helps trainers and trainee-teachers examine the way the education system functions in our country, critically assess the role of some of the main ‘actors’ in the schooling process (teachers, learners, government and the larger society), evaluate the social and political agenda of education, and understand the importance of analyzing both what is taught and how it is taught in school. It is intended to provide an opportunity for trainees to see the school as part of the larger society. • Saath Saath (children) Responding to the increasing awareness about gender parity, the growing violence against the female sex, the Avehi Abacus Project has developed a kit on Gender titled Saath Saath - Living together in harmony. The kit has been developed to generate respect for individuals irrespective of their biological sex. It aims to create an awareness that requires not just intellectual effort but sensitivity and open-mindedness. Program highlights
