  3. Logon Script • Uses • Map drives based on group membership • Enables remote administration • Enables some firewall exceptions • Makes sure LSP group is in administrators group • Can be batch or vbscript

  4. Login Script (cont.) • GPO Settings: • Computer Configuration • Administrative Templates • System/Group Policy • User Group Policy loopback processing mode: enabled • Mode: Merge • User Configuration • Scripts • Logon • Name: path to script.

  5. Folder Redirection • Uses • Alternative to roaming profiles • Redirects Application Data, Desktop, Start Menu, and My Documents to a network share • Initial logon takes longer while local files are moved (but files can be moved ahead of time)

  6. Folder Redirection (cont.) • GPO Settings • Enable Loopback • User Configuration • Windows Settings • Folder Redirection • My Documents • Setting: Basic • Path: \\server\share\ (username is appended automatically)

WSUS • Uses • Local Windows UpdateServer • Clients automatic update setting forced to local server via GPO. • Updates can be approved or denied as needed. • Is there a need for a campus-wide WSUS Server? • Saves bandwidth (server downloads from net, client computers download from LAN) • LSPs won’t control what updates are approved/denied unless they run a child WSUS server.

  8. WSUS (cont.) • GPO Settings: • Groups assigned by GPO, one GPO per office. • Computer Configuration: • Administrative templates • Windows Components/Windows Update

  9. Remote Management • Computer Management • Checking error logs • Restarting services • Sharing folders • Local group management • Remote Scheduling

  10. Shared Printers • Printers can be IP printers, but must be installed on a computer • When sharing, click “List in the Directory” • Users can search for printers in the directory and install them • Location settings assist clients in searching for printers
