Slide 21:Interviewing Tips from Hiring Managers

A person who has presence and can think on his/her feet. Professional dress is important and I do like it if the candidates have done "homework" on our district. I look for the flexibility and problem solving ability in the person and their ability to articulate an understanding of how a child/young adult learns. Calm, engaging personality. When I'm interviewing candidates, I imagine that I am a student and s/he is my teacher, and the interview is the class. The ability to give real life experience answers rather than theoretical responses. Experience working with diverse students. The way they handle themselves - knowing when to be serious, when to be light. Here are quotes from eastern massachusetts hiring managers compiled from our recent Hiring Trends surveyed. We asked what makes a candidate stand out the most during the interview process and here are some helpful responses. Here are quotes from eastern massachusetts hiring managers compiled from our recent Hiring Trends surveyed. Technologically literate, knowledgeable of future trends. Their ability to articulate their excitement for the field; and their ability and creativity in meeting the needs of a wide range of learners. Having a candidate look you in the eye when he/she is responding to a question. How the candidate sits and presents him/herself during the interview process. The candidate comes prepared with quality questions (not contract or benefit questions) to ask the interview team and/or administrator.
