Pet Travel Policy Southwest Like many airlines, Southwest accepts pets along with their humans. But while most airlines allow pets to fly as cargo, and some allow you to check pets as baggage, Southwest does not. In the cabin, only dogs and cats are allowed, and only on domestic routes. Pets are not authorized to travel in-cabin on any Southwest Airlines international aircraft, even if it is only for a portion of your journey. However, if you’re traveling with a trained assistance animal or emotional support animal, Southwest allows them to ride with you on international flights as well. Southwest Airlines Pet Policy It's worth noting that Jamaica has country-specific restrictions that prevent Southwest from flying even service animals to or from the country. Emotional aid animals must be accompanied by current documentation, which you will be required to show. Dogs are transported in-cabin beneath the seat in front of you, as is the case with all airlines. For obvious reasons, Southwest will not work with you unless your pet is a cat or a small dog. According to Southwest, your pet must be "harmless, non-disruptive, odorless, and require no monitoring during travel" in addition to being small. Southwest Pet Policy - Organizing travel plans Pets are unable to travel alone. They must be accompanied by an adult rather than a minor who is alone. You are permitted to transport one pet carrier on board, which may contain up to two dogs or cats. – - if they are small enough to stand, lie down, and move around in their carrier comfortably. They must be at least 8 weeks old to be eligible. You cannot board with three items, thus your pet's carrier will count as either your personal item or your carry-on. On Southwest, you can usually sit wherever you wish, but with a pet in tow, you can't sit behind the bulkhead or in an exit row. During your time in the gate area or on the plane, your dog or cat must remain in the carrier. Southwest Airlines requires pet reservations in advance, but you don't have to pay until you're ready to go. The current pet fare per pet carrier is $95 per trip, but you should double-check before booking because costs are subject to change. Spaces are allotted on a first-come-first-served basis. Under normal circumstances, Southwest allows a total of 6 pet carriers on any given flight. Southwest Airlines Pet Policy - Pet carriers that have been approved Southwest sells branded pet carriers which you can purchase online or at any of their ticket counters. Whatever carrier you choose, it must be: ● Designed specifically to transport a pet, whether hard-sided or soft-sided. ● It's airtight and well-ventilated. ● Because it must fit beneath the seat in front of you, it must be no more than 18.5" long, 8.5" high, and 13.5" wide. (The carrier with the Southwest logo measures 17" long, 10.5" high, and 10" wide.) Pet Travel Policy Southwest - Pet carriers that have been approved Check in online, curbside, at a kiosk, or at the ticket counter, or use any of Southwest's other options. You must, however, check in and pay for your pet's fare at the ticket counter. Cabin pets, like passengers, must pass through security. You will remove your dog or cat from her container and
hold her in your arms while you pass through the screening apparatus. In the meantime, her carrier, along with the rest of your belongings, will be x-rayed. The TSA and airline employees are authorized to search the plane. When planning ahead for your pet's personal needs, make a note of where each airport's pet relief area is in proximity to your gate. Southwest Airlines stresses the fact that they will not hold a plane if you’re running late because the little Princess had to do her thing. They will fly away without you.
