  33. Year 7AIG Meeting September 2011How we use Assessment Data

  34. What Assessment Data do we already have? When your child is enrolled at Thornleigh we are able to access their KS2 results as soon as they are published. This is not just simple levels like: English: Level 4 Maths: Level 3 We receive a full break down of how each student performed in each test paper.

  35. Detailed KS2 Data

  36. What do we use KS2 results for? • At Thornleigh we set all students for English and Maths right from the beginning of Year 7. • There are 5 sets in each half of the year • This setting is refined as the year progresses. • We also use the KS2 data to set each student targets in all their subjects.

  37. Target Setting at Key Stage 3 The Government expects all students to make a minimum of two levels of progress between the end of KS2 and the end of KS3. In English and Maths we take a student’s KS2 sub-level in that subject to set the target. In all other areas of the curriculum we use an average of a student’s English and maths sub-levels.

  38. CAT Tests • All Year 7 students took a series of Cognitive Abilities Tests (CATs) last week. • These are currently being marked. • We use these to give every class teacher additional information about each student’s strengths and weaknesses.

  39. Class Teacher’s Use of Key Data

  40. On-Going Teacher Assessment • A teacher’s assessment of their students is on-going all the time. • However, we collect a formal assessment of every student 3 times a year. • Parents are informed of these results through a Progress Report or a more detailed Full Report. • We also use this data to track how well each student is doing relative to their targets.
