  3. WHAT IS A SECTOR SKILLS COUNCIL? • Licensed by Government • Employer led • The Four Key Objectives of an SSC are: • Reducing skills gaps and shortages • Improving business performance • Increasing opportunities for learning • Improving the supply of learning

Aims & Objectives • To provide Partners with key relevant and up to date sector specific information • Ensure brokers have the information required to interact and engage effectively • Improve the credibility of brokers • Ensure employers are provided with the best possible opportunities for development • Agree partnership working

  8. Current & Future Qualifications Standards & Qualification Team that are Responsible for: • Developing occupational standards & frameworks that support employers operations & training activities • Support the development of vocationally related qualifications

  9. Train to Gain Protocol It is the responsibility of each SSC to: • Promote Train to Gain availability to its Employers • Provide Quality referrals to the Train to Gain Brokers • Continually update brokers by providing briefing sessions

  10. Train to Gain Provision It is the responsibility of each SSC to: • Establish and Influence a Quality Provider Network • To Provide Sector Expertise and Guidance for Demand Led Change • Influence Regional Partner Working and where necessary deliver Brokerage Services

  11. Responsibility of SSCs for Train to Gain Work with Employers, partners and providers to meet the needs of Employers by providing a Best Practice, Quality service for every employer in each Industry of its Sector

Leitch Implementation Plan • Qualifications both for individuals and employers must deliver “economically valuable skills”. • Employers will be at the heart of a demand-led skills system. • New employer-led UK-wide Commission for Employment and Skills • More employer influence of Sector Skills Councils (SSCs)

  15. Leitch Implementation Plan • SSCs will be responsible for approving vocational qualifications • Employers and colleges will be able to have their own training schemes approved as qualifications provided they meet nationally-agreed criteria

  16. Leitch Implementation Plan SSCs are to be reformed with a new remit focused on raising employer ambition and investment in skills, articulating the future skill needs of their sector, and ensuring that the supply of skills and qualifications is driven by employers
