  1. Andrzej Olszewski Institute of Nuclear Physics Kraków, Poland October 2005 – February 2006 Polish Tier-2

  2. Polish HEP(LHC) centres Cracow (Kraków) Institute of Nuclear Physics, University of Science andTechnology • ATLAS (12 physicists, 3 PhD students), LHCb (7+1), ALICE • Neutrino, Belle • ZEUS, H1 Warsaw (Warszawa) Institute for Nuclear Studies, University,Technical University • CMS (5 physicists, 6 PhD students, ~3 engineers), LHCb, Alice • COMPASS • Neutrino

  3. Polish LCG/EGEE centres • Cracow: • CYFRONET – Academic Computer Centre • http://www.cyfronet.pl/ • Warsaw: • ICM – Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling • http://www.icm.edu.pl/ • Poznań • PCSS – Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Centre • http://www.man.poznan.pl/

  4. Polish network GDAŃSK KOSZALIN OLSZTYN SZCZECIN BIAŁYSTOK BYDGOSZCZ BASNET 34 Mb/s TORUŃ GÉANT POZNAŃ WARSZAWA ZIELONA GÓRA ŁÓDŹ WROCŁAW RADOM CZĘSTOCHOWA PUŁAWY OPOLE KIELCE LUBLIN 10 Gb/s KATOWICE 1 Gb/s RZESZÓW KRAKÓW Local network BIELSKO-BIAŁA CESNET, SANET

  5. Cracow computing centre Available for LCG in early 2006: • ~130 kSi2000 • 80 CPUs (Xeon 2.4 – 2.8 GHz) available now • 200 CPUs (Xeon 2.8 Ghz) coming soon • ~20 TB disk array

  6. Warsaw computing centre Available for LCG in early 2006: • ~290 kSi2000 • 180 CPUs (AMD Opteron 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM/CPU ) available now • 40 CPUs (AMD dual-core, 4GB RAM/CPU) coming soon • ~9 TB disk array

  7. Poznań computing centre Available for LCG in early 2006: • ~180 kSi2000 • 100 CPUs (Itanium 2GB RAM/CPU) available now • ~90 more coming soon, details not yet fixed • ~2 TB disk array • ~5 TB tape storage • Operation centre for Polish academic network

  8. Tier-2 federation • Poland is a federated Tier-2 • HEP community rather small (~60 people) • Each of the computing centres naturally will support mainly 1 experiment • Cracow – ATLAS • Warsaw – CMS • Poznań – ALICE (because they have Itanium processors) • This means that each centre will be about 1/3 of the average/small Tier2 for a given experiment

  9. Oct-Feb Progress • Procurement of new hardware finalized at Cracow (+200 CPU) and Warsaw (+88 CPU) • Polish internal 1Gbit/s VLAN network setup between Poznan, Cracow, Warsaw finalized and tested • Setup of the outbound connection from Poznan to Tier1 FZK Karlsruhe is under arrangements • Pilot attempts of installation of services for SC4 have mostly succeeded, but services not yet in production
