This training guide focuses on Tier 2 exercises using GTS beyond basic GIS applications. Participants will learn to map drives, establish desktop shortcuts, and copy necessary folders for training. Exercises will involve using ArcCatalog to connect and reproject data, working with the LRDW database, and creating maps for regions like Prince George. The guide covers practical skills such as exporting shapefiles, creating new polygon shapefiles, and exploring elevation data, ensuring hands-on experience in GIS data management.

Tier 2 Training Exercises
Exercise- GTS • Explore GTS than just GIS application and see what you can find • Find your w: drive path and create a shortcut on desktop • Mapping drive • \\slkgis2\work with another letter if you mapped marble for w: drive
Files • Copy the following folder to your own w: drive • \\slkgis2\work\srm\prg\Workarea\mayuen\ILMB\training\Data\Tier2_training\ • Tier2_training folder • If you can’t connect, use the ftp site from internet explorer • ftp://ftpprg.env.gov.bc.ca/pub/outgoing/for_Matthew/
Exercise- Projection/ArcCatalog • Using ArcCatalog, use the “connect to folder” button and locate your working folder in the w: drive • Inside Tier2_training/Projection folder, reproject the BC only from BC Albers to UTM 10 • UTM Path • Projected Coordinate Systems/Utm/Nad1983/NAD 1983 UTM Zone 10N.prj • BC Albers • Projected Coordinate Systems/National Grids/Canada/NAD 1983 BC Environment Albers.prj
Exercise- LRDW • Regional SDE Server Info • Server: slkux12.env.gov.bc.ca • Service: 5154 • Database: srmprod1 • User leave blank
Exercise- LRDW • Add the major cities from LRDW in ArcCatalog • WHSE_BASEMAPPING.BC.MAJOR_CITIES_POINTS_500M • Zoom into Fort St. James • Add BaseMapping 250k_base_mapping from TSAT • Look around • If you have time, try adding in 20k_basemapping from TSAT (remember it has to be 1:20000 scale or under to be viewable)
Exercise-Map Making • Create a map in of Prince George, with a key map of BC linked, and with the following data • Cut Block Data (ften) • DRA (Digital Road Atlas) • Parks and Protected area • Water and lakes
