Rationale • 90% of low citizenship grades at midterm were related to unprepared behaviors • Off-task behaviors caused distractions • Unnecessary disruptions when unprepared • Hallway traffic wastes time • Initiate change in common areas first • Focus on behaviors in hallways, cafeteria, grounds • Faculty more receptive to change in common areas versus classroom modification • Group reinforcement of consistent expectations

Data Indicators Faculty survey found: 58.3% indicated student behavior often interferes with my ability to teach 75% indicated student behavior often interferes with other student’s ability to learn 100% strongly agree/agree that it is part of their professional responsibility to enforce school rules in both my classroom & non-classroom environments 100% strongly agree/agree that they would support and enforce a few clearly defined rules in their classroom if it would improve the learning atmosphere at our school

Discussion Since UBI initiatives were implemented “School-Wide Positives”: • increased from 432 to 567 in 3 months (31.25%) positively impacted: Disciplinary referrals • ODR major incidents reduced by 85.29% • In-school suspension decreased by 48.6%
Plans for Continuous Improvement • Review Year One data with faculty in Fall 2009 in-service • Conduct follow-up staff survey • Continue to work collaboratively with teachers on consistent rules • Design and post new procedural posters around the building • Increase number of Friday awards to 75% per grade level Year Two Intervention Goals
