Lecture 6 : New arrival in the family • The birth of a baby is a difficult but fulfilling experience for a mother • The husband should extend his help in this process of welcoming a new servant of Allah (SWT) to the world • Shared experience creates deeper bond between the couple in their common goal to serve Allah

  2. Islamic Customs on Birth of a Child • Prophetic Sunnah need to be followed, e.g., Cleaning the child after birth, Recite Adhan and Iqamah to the baby’s ear. • Customs of Aqiqa should be followed and the baby should be given a proper name.

The Demand from the Newborn Babies • Equal treatment of sons and daughters is highly emphasized in Sunnah. • Fulfilling the needs of a new baby in the best possible way is very important responsibility for the parents. • At the same time, parents have to be sensitive to the need of emotional support for their other children during the time of accommodating a newborn in the family.

Passing on the Trust of Faith • The parents have to create a proper balance between their love and responsibility for their children. • Muslim parents are in obligation to pass on the amanah (Trust) of faith to their children from the very young and tender age, so that they can grow with balanced Muslim personality
