Overview of Asa’s Reign(1 Kings 15:9-14) • Began to reign in 20th year of Jeroboam (9) • Did right in the sight of the Lord like his father David (11) • Removed the cult prostitutes and idols which his fathers had made (12) • RemovedMaacah, the queen mother (13 cf. 15:2) • Heart was wholly devoted to the Lord all his days (14)

  5. Theme Verse in 2 Chronicles? “ if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. ” -2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV -

Asa’s Reign(2 Chron. 14:1-7) • The land was undisturbed for 10 years (1,5-6) • Removed the various idols (3) • Commanded Judah to: (4) • Seek the Lord God of their fathers • Observe the law • Removed the high places and incense altars in Judah (5) • Built fortified cities in Judah and prospered (6-7) • We have sought the Lord and He has given us rest

AsavsZerah(2 Chron 14:8-15) • Asa has about 580,00 valiant men • Zerah comes with 1,000,000 men and 300 chariots • To Mareshah (cf 11:8) • Called to the Lord his God (11) • The Lord routed the Ethiopians and Asa pursued (12-13) • Collected great spoil in the surrounding cities of Gerar (13-15) • Gerar was a Philistine city (cf Gen 20:2, 26:1)

  8. Asa Meets Azariah(1 Kings 15:2) “The Lord is with you while you are with Him. And if you seek Him, He will let you find Him; But if you forsake Him, He will forsake you.” (2) • Paints a picture of past/present/future without God (3-6) “But you, be strong and do not lose courage, for there is reward for your work.” (7) 1 Corinthians 15:58

Asa After Meeting Azariah(2 chron 15:8-18) Took Courage • Removed idols from Judah, Benjamin and hills of Ephraim • Gathered people for a sacrifice to God in Jerusalem (9-11) • Made covenant to seek the Lord with all heart and soul earnestly (12,15) • Whoever wouldn’t seek…should die… great or small (13) • RemovedMaacah, queen mother (16) • Did not remove high places from Israel nevertheless… (17) • Dedicated items to the house of the Lord (18)

  10. Asa In Need of Help (1)(2 Chron 16:1-6) • Baasha, king of Israel, tries to keep Israel from defecting (1) • Asa takes from the treasury and sends it to Beh-Hadad King of Aram/Syria to help defeat Baasha (2-3) • Baasha withdraws, and the supplies are used to fortify Judah (5-6)

  11. Hanani Sent to Asa(2 Chron 16:7-10) • B/che relied on the King of Aram and not God as before (7-9) • He acted foolishly and from now on he will have wars (9) • God was/is looking to give strong support! (9) • Asa got upset and: (10) • Put Hanani in prison • Oppressed some of the people

  12. Asa In Need of Help (2)(2 Chron 16:12) • Gets a disease in his feet (12) • Sought the physicians not the Lord (12)

  13. Applications 2013 • Don’t forget what the Lord has done and is able to do for man! (James 5:16-18) • God must be more important than one’s family (Matt 10:37) • God wants man to seek and find Him (Acts 17:27) • It was serious not to seek God with the whole heart (Mt 22:37) • People should be attracted to God, not to a man (1 Cor. 2:1-5) • The trend of sin can be broken (Ezekiel 16)
