  2. Notes #17Standard and Objective • Standard: Students demonstrate an understanding of and interpret written and spoke language on a variety of topics. • Objective: Students will develop basic knowledge of the imperfect (past) tense using -ar, -ir, -er verbs to express ongoing past actions.

  3. The Imperfect • Use this tense when you talk about what people used to do in the past (continuous)

  4. -ábamos X -aban -aba -abas -aba To form the imperfect of -ar verbs, drop the -ar and substitute the following endings:

  5. hablaba hablabas hablaba hablábamos X hablaban Hablar in the Imperfect

  6. -ía -ías -ía -íamos X -ían To form the imperfect of -er/-ir verbs, drop the -er/-ir and substitute the following endings:

  7. comíamos X comían comía comías comía The conjugation of comer is:

  8. Only three verbs are irregular in the imperfect, ser, ir, and ver.

  10. iba ibas iba íbamos X iban ir- to go

  11. veía veías veía veíamos X veían ver- to see
