  2. Essential # 4 Indicator # 2 Current AVID CSS Level of Use: Level 1. What CSS Level would you like to achieve? Level 3 Critical Question: What can we do to make sure that AVID Elective students are getting “C”s or higher in their core classes? Objective: At least 85% of AVID students received grades of “C” or better on the previous formal grading period report card in each of their core academic classes. Assessment: Calculate all grades at least every two weeks to monitor and demonstrate that all/AVID students are maintaining “C”s or higher for all core classes.

Action Item A: Teach students how to analyze their TeacherEase reports to self-reflect and set new goals for the upcoming week to maintain a “C” average or higher in all core classes by having a common approach among AVID Elective Teachers. Topics to address: Expenditures: Pay for TeacherEase (online grading software) accounts. Staff to be involved: AVID Site Team Potential Obstacles: Technology issues such as access at home. Students need to have access to analyze their own grades by having email accounts so they can be held accountable to accomplish their own goals. Responsibilities: AVID Elective Teachers Timeline: (When will this action item be co Action Item B: Discuss ideas to accomplish the objective at first site team meeting on first working calendar Tuesday during Lunch in room 36. Topics to address: Providing support through the Response to Intervention (RTI) process Expenditures: ??? Staff to be involved: AVID Site Team and RTI coordinator Potential Obstacles: Professional development to understand the RTI process Responsibilities: Neil Egasani/RTI coordinator Timeline: 3-4 weeks from the first day of school enrollment to analyze the data

  4. Action Item C: Parent night on August 30th in AVID Elective Classroom Teacher rooms from 5-5:30. Topics to address: Student leadership Expenditures: Pay staff, refreshments Staff to be involved: AVID Site Team Potential Obstacles: Parents attending parent night. Responsibilities: AVID Site Team Timeline: 1 month

Essential # 11 1 Indicator # 7 Current AVID CSS Level of Use: 1 What CSS Level would you like to achieve? 3 Critical Question: How can we provide professional development to share best practices to be effective during the instructional day? Objective: Professional development on AVID methodologies is part of the school professional development plan. AVID site team members train others in the school improvement process and are school leaders sitting on key site/district committees. Assessment: Copy of the site professional development plan with AVID highlighted. List school/district committees with Site Team members highlighted. List of AVID Site Team teachers who have been trained in the school improvement process and documentation that they are training others via sign in sheets and agendas.

Action Item A: To train, observe, coach, and then debrief related to Philosophical Chairs, Socratic Seminars, and Critical Reading lessons with other core subject teachers in the same grade to share best practices during the instructional day and to work with higher or lower grades for vertical teaming/collaboration. Topics to address: To have administration provide collaboration time during the instructional day. Expenditures: Substitute or prep time pay. Staff to be involved: 7th and 8th grade teachers Potential Obstacles: No time given to collaborate. Responsibilities: AVID Site Team Timeline: November 2011. Action Item B: AVID Teachers will start to use interactive notebooks for some of their core classes to create an effective critical thinking resource for students to accomplish their academic goals. Topics to address: Expenditures: Notebooks. Paper printed by District Office. Staff to be involved: Holly Black, Ryan Dickes, Sherri Mask Potential Obstacles: No money for notebooks or paper. Responsibilities: Teachers implementing the interactive notebooks. Timeline: Discuss ideas and notebook samples the first several site team meetings in August and September 2011.

  7. Long Term Planning Resource Goal: Year 2012-2013 Focus Area: Vertical collaboration of best practices with San Ysidro High School. Action: To organize dates and times with high school staff. Timeline: Fall 2012 Assessment: Needs to be created.
