EuropeanIntegration–AChallengefortheYoungSlovakGenerationTheICCS2009 internationalresearchprojectisfocusedonhowyoungpeopleinvariouscountriesprepare tofulfilltheir civilrolesin the21stCentury.Thisstudyconsistsofresearchon theknowledge andattitudesof14-year-oldSlovakpupils(asampleof2970respondents)towardsEurope and the European Union.Thegoalwasto find answersto the following twoquestions:“What doSlovakpupilsknowaboutEuropeandtheEuropeanUnion?“and“Whatistheattitudeof Slovak pupils toward Europe and the European Union?“ Slovak pupils’ knowledge highly surpassestheinternationalaverage.TheattitudeofSlovakpupilstoEuropeandtheEuropean Union isvery open. They are interested inEUaffairsand appreciatethe EU'scontributiontothedevelopmentofSlovaksocietyinalloftheareasmeasured.Slovakyouthisoptimistic about thechallenges of Europeanintegrationrelatedtothedebt crisis insomeEU memberstatesandabouttheunitedcurrencystabilityafter2010,mainlythankstotheout- comesachieved in 2009 resultingfromSlovakia'smembership intheEU.
