  2. In today’s lesson…. 1. I can use quotation marks in dialogue. 2. I can identify similes. 3. I can describe a root word and an idiom. 4. I can spell and define words correctly. 5. I can understand God's Word.

  3. Grammar: Quotations in Dialogue A conversation is people talking and sharing ideas, feelings or opinions. A dialogue is a conversation between two or more characters. When you write or tell the exact words that another person said, it is called a quotation.

  4. Grammar: Quotations - Dialogue 1. To write a quotation, you must tell who is talking. 2. You will need to use capitals and special punctuation. Example: Tom said can I have a snack? Tom said,“Can I have a snack?”

  5. Grammar: Quotations - Dialogue 3. Capitalize the first letter of the quote. 4. Keep the punctuation mark inside the second quotation mark. Example: Sally said, “would you like ice cream”? Sally said, “Would you like ice cream?”

  6. Grammar: Quotations - Dialogue 5. End a quotation with a comma, unless the quotation already has a punctuation mark. Examples: “Have some cookies,” said Sally. “Would you like coffee?” asked Sally.

  10. Writing: Simile Similes are a type of figurativelanguage. A simile is a comparison between two things using “like” or “as.” It is not literally true. Example: Your hands are as smooth as silk. My room is like a pigsty.
