Top Tips • Help set up their profile • Add your e-mail as the main contact (if possible) • Set the privacy settings to ‘friends only’ • Be one of your children’s friends • Make sure they are ‘friends’ with children that they know in the real world • Show them a CEOP safety resource which outlines the risks (You Tube) • You Tube - CEOP Films • Tell them to post content and photos that they wouldn’t mind showing you • Show them how to report an issue to CEOP and Facebook • CEOP Film on How to Report • Have a look at Facebook’s Family Safety Center • http://www.facebook.com/safety

Gaming Top Tips • Put all gaming devices in a family space • As they have online facilities, treat the console just like you would a laptop or PC • Talk to your child about the sites they are using and why they like them • Explain that some people are mean or lie online and are not always who they say they are • Ask them never to give out personal information • Set parental controls – visit the service provider’s website or CEOP parent’s page for help • Set time limits – an hour screen time before bed

Instant Messaging (Windows/Hotmail)and Private Chat (Facebook/Blackberry Messenger) Top Tips Don’t speak to anyone online that you don’t know in real life • When using webcam, make sure there is nothing visible in room e.g. personal information that could identify user or put them at risk of cyberbullying) • Turn webcam away when not in use • Ensure that there is adequate downtime • Treat their password like their toothbrush – never share it! • Teach them how to report a problem
