  3. LQ WBS • Coils are being fabricated at FNAL and BNL • F. Nobrega (FNAL), and J. Schmalzle (BNL) • Quench protection and instr. design & proc. at LBNL • H. Felice • Shell structure: design, procur. & assembly at LBNL  P. Ferracin • Collar structure: procurement at FNAL  F. Nobrega • All LQ models to be tested at FNAL  G. Chlachidze LQ session: Introduction – G. Ambrosio

Coil Fabrication Status • Found problem after coil #3 heat treatment • Performed analysis further analysis needed • Developed solution for LQS01 coils LQ02 coils Further analysis by core programs Coils 4 and 5 will be used for practice assembly Coils 6 to 9 will be used for LQS01 LQ session: Introduction – G. Status (cont.) • Coils: • found and solved issues with impregnation and instrument. • Coils #4 to #7 delivered to LBNL • Shell structure: • Assembled LQS with Al dummy coils (LQSD) • and tested it at LN • Quench protection: • Improved trace design based on coil fabr. feedback • tested protection heaters on coil 5 at LN, and firing units • Test prep: • Successful handling and test of LQSD • VMTF improvements in progress LQ session: Introduction – G.   6. Start LQS01 assembly: June 9 Start LQS01 test: August 26 Note: reaction &impregnation of coils #12 and #13 not funded in FY09 LQS01 Schedule LQ session: Introduction – G. Ambrosio

LQS01 Readiness Reviews • GOAL: Assess readiness for LQS01 assembly (by evaluating: choice of coils, structure, target pre-stress and assembly procedure) and test (test facility and test plan) • #1: “LQS structure and target pre-stress” • April 7, LBNL • #2: “LQ coil design and fabrication, & LQS01 assembly” • end of May/ June at FNAL • #3: “Test readiness and test plan”  PASSED Introduction – G.   8. FY09 Budget Adjusted Original FY09 budget: 2,128 374 1,116 638 Why? LQ coil cost: • FY09 budget while plan was not defined • Estimates with no contingency • $5M max for magnet R&D LQ session: Introduction – G. Ambrosio
