What is a command Line Interface? A user interface, like the one created by the DOS operating system, that makes use of typed commands.
What is a Graphical user interface? A computer interface that enables a user to control the computer and launch commands by pointing and clicking at graphical objects such as windows, icons, and menu items.
Pros and Cons of CLI pros cons • An experienced user can enter commands quicker than selecting options using a lot of menus. • Can be used on a computer with a little memory and is very slow. • Difficult to remember all the possible commands • Error messages are not usually very helpful.
Pros and Cons of GUI Pros cons • Operations are self-explanatory • Operations are much easier using a GUI with a pointer • More than one program running at a time • WYSIWYG • Many programs use a similar interface • Provide good help facilities • Can take up a lot of memory. • Needs to be run on a fast computer • GUI may work slow if a computer is slow
