  6. Learned • The new science standards that science teachers will need to follow • Ways I might collaborate with content area teachers • Science has specific vocabulary but the concepts can cross subject areas • Vampire blood is easily bought at Party City • Blood drops are quite interesting

  7. Learned • The connections between science standards and literacy standards • A way to discuss what an engineer does • Loved the video • How the NGSS connect to the CCCSS • How much fun science writing can be in the context of a science experiment (blood spatter) • How important it is just to look again before writing.

Learned • How long 5 minutes feels when looking at a painting and not writing anything, but how much more you see when you keep looking. • The new demands being placed on the science teachers but feel like it’ll be okay for all involved. • Aout the new science standards—how thry will br used and what the affects may be on teachers • How to use writing in conducting a science experment

  9. Surprises? Questions? • The level of scientific knowledge students will need to learn. • How will teachers adapt their curriculum and their mindset? • When will NGSS be implemented? • I was surprised by the amount of detail needed for clearly written scientific observation. • How long 5 minutes is when you are just looking. • Yay! I think I have my anthology piece!

  10. Surprises? Questions? • Lynne’s demo lesson was fun and engaging and made me remember doing labs in science.

  11. More? • Does Kathy have a favorite flower? If so, what is it? • Strategies for organizing, developing, and structuring expository writing. • I’d love to know if history also has new standards in addition to the history CCSS standards for writing and reading, and, if so, what they’re like.

  12. Surprises? Questions? • How interested I was in understanding the science standards. I think there is a way to engage students in english using science content using informational texts. I see boys jumping on board.

  20. Site Work Possibilities • Encourage schools to partner with us in professional development. • Identify program opportunities and guide development. • Identify, create, and lead open institutes in writing, literature, poetry, assessment, technology, etc.

  21. Site Work Possibilities • Create and lead/participate in book groups, discussion groups, study groups • Engage in teacher research/inquiry. Share findings. • Write to lawmakers, policy makers • Edit and/or write for site newsletter • Web site revision and development

  22. Site Work Possibilities • Work with other Writing Project sites, nationally or state wide • Plan and facilitate social events such as reunions.

What interests might you like to pursue? Do you want to work with school sites doing professional development? Continue a writing group? Join a book group? Something else? Or none of the above?
