Summer Research Institute

The Summer Research Institute presented by Rikki Gonzalez at California State University, Channel Islands, offers an opportunity for STEM majors to engage in authentic research from May 28 to June 15, 2013. Participants will work in small teams (3-4) and can receive a stipend of $1,440 while completing 40 hours a week. Eligibility includes a GPA of 2.25 or higher and completion of intermediate algebra. The application process involves submitting a personal statement, letter of recommendation, and unofficial transcripts by March 15. Acceptance notifications will be sent by April 15.

FAQ’s • Freshman can apply if they’ve completed intermediate algebra and a few STEM courses • You do not have to submit a resume or job application • We don’t know which faculty members will be mentors. In the past, they were from Biology, Chemistry, Math, ESRM (Environmental Studies), Computer Science and Physics departments.

  16. FAQ’s • You can cut and paste your personal statement into the application. • If you are bringing a car on campus you will be required to purchase a summer permit. A portion of your parking fee will be refunded at the end of the Summer Institute. A better choice than driving to campus is to use public transportation or carpool.
