  1. PTK Honors Society Presents Building Community Resilience in Lansing A special presentation by Dr. Guy McPherson February 17th 5:30PM – 7:30PM LCC Main Campus Gannon Bldg. #134 Free local & organic refreshments provided! Dr. Guy McPhereson is professor emeritus of natural resources and the environment at the University of Arizona. His scholarly work, focused primarily on conservation of biological diversity, has produced 10 books and more than 100 articles. After researching environmental degradation, climate change, and fossil fuel dependency, he discovered that traditional conceptualizations of sustainability are woefully inadequate. In the talk, Dr. McPherson will reveal the essence of sustainability: something that is unsustainable must at some point cease being sustained. It must end.. Our industrial economy uses non-renewable energy to convert non-renewable resources into "product", which ends as ecosystem and climate destroying waste. At some point, we will have to deal with the consequences of this system. And the evidence suggests its going to be sooner rather than later. After the talk and Q&A, Dr. McPherson will moderate a discussion developing service projects to increase food, water, and energy security at the individual and community level. He is an ideal moderator for this discussion as he lives in an off-grid, straw-bale house where he puts into practice his lifelong interest in sustainable living via organic gardening, raising small animals for eggs and milk, and working with members of his rural community. This is an incredible opportunity to network with passionate LCC and MSU students in the Lansing area who want to make a real difference for our community. The event is free, but limited to the first 60 attendees. Call: (517) 862-1559 Email: emailchristians@gmail.com
