  2. How do you get ready in the morning? • Do you brush your hair? How? • Do you take a shower or bath?

  3. Brushing Techniques • Use Slicker Type Brush for longhaired dogs and cats • Use a bristled brush for shorthaired dogs and cats • Shedding blade – remove coat

  4. Removing Mats & Burrs • Wire Comb • Mat Splitter • Electric hair clipper

Bathing • Proper restrain is the KEY • Never leave unattended in tub (especially retrained) • Shampoo should have at least 5 minutes contact time with skin • Wear eye-wear and apron • Start at head and move to tail • Cats – use mat so can grab onto • Cage dryers – not too long • Cologne – used during client pick up

  8. Trimming Nails • Anatomy • Dewclaws • Nail Clippers • Be sharp, not crush • Use silver nitrate if cut into quick

  9. Ear Care • Anatomy • First step should be a veterinarian examination • Remove hair from within the ear canal • Clean debris with a cotton ball

  10. Eye Care • Use cotton ball and water

  11. Anal glands • Gentle external pressure • Full glands are irritating to dog – scooting across the ground
